Doors

Dimensions

  • European: height 2100, width 600, 700, 800 or 900 mm for single leaf.
  • Russian with the same width, they have a standard height of 2000 mm. This standard is fixed by the Soviet GOST and is tied to the height of the ceilings that were arranged in houses of typical construction. To do higher at a distance from the floor to the ceiling of 2.4-2.5 meters was useless.

Now a lot of new housing with higher ceilings is being built, so some domestic manufacturers are revising the old standards and releasing others - a height of 2100 mm, and sometimes more. But, if we talk about uniform standards, they simply do not exist today.

Each manufacturer decides how much to release the door. Among the Russian production can be found: the height of 1900, 2000, 2100 and even 2300 mm. At the same time, their width ranges from 550 (doors for bathrooms and sanitary facilities) to 900 m. These are single-wing sizes.

interior doors height

As for the bivalves, their width usually ranges from 1000 to 1800 mm, and the paintings do not have to be the same. For example, a double leaflet with a width of 1400 mm may consist of two identical flaps 700 mm each, or maybe one 600 mm and the second 800 mm. It should be noted that these are the dimensions of the canvases or the light opening of the box.

To understand what width and height of doors you need, you need to know their dimensions with the box (see Interior doors with a box). For different manufacturers, the thickness of the box varies from 15 to 45 mm, which means that the opening in which the door will be installed must be wider than the web by the double thickness of the elements of the box. The same applies to the height, but here it is necessary to take into account the presence or absence of a threshold.

One more thing: some European manufacturers do not specify dimensions in mm, but in modules. The length of one module is 100 mm. That is, if you see the designation M21, then the height is equal to 2100 mm.

How to make measurements

You may not understand all these tricks, since almost all sellers provide free services for taking measurements from openings, sending the master measurer to the house. It measures the width and height of the opening, the thickness of the wall, and only then, in the cabin, you will be offered the doors that suit you best.

In addition to measurements, an experienced master will take into account many other nuances: the material from which the partition is made, the strength and correctness of the configuration of the opening, the need to set a threshold. He will tell you which way is better to open the door, if it is a hinged door, or advises another installation option.

Main dimensions for the choice of interior doors

There are situations when it is advisable not to pick up the finished door under the existing opening, but to change the dimensions of the opening itself. For example, narrow it down so that the swing door has a smaller opening radius and does not touch the furniture in the room. Or expand to put bivalve or wider.

In short, if the dimensions of the opening do not allow installing the desired doors into it, sometimes it is easier to remake the opening itself. Otherwise, have to do to order. Thanks to the technical capabilities of modern equipment, you can easily make a door of any size, but they will cost much more than standard ones, and the cost of their installation will be higher.

If you decide to do without a measurer, but do not know how to measure, look at the picture.

To find out the width, you must first use the plumb line or the building level to determine the verticality of its slopes on one side and the other. Measure the distance between the found lines. The height is measured between the highest point of the floor (if the floors are not level) and a horizontal line drawn from the angle of the opening.

If the opening has a clearly incorrect configuration, it is better to try to fix it before taking measurements and adjust it to the standard dimensions.

how to measure the interior door

Even if you end up with not very high doors - a height of 1900 mm, this is better than not closing. In any case, the standard typical solution is always more convenient and cheaper than making to order. In the case of purchasing standard doors, you will not have to install any additional items, select box parts for your dimensions, choose separate door trims in size and color, etc.

All this takes time, nerves and additional costs. Let us consider an example of how to determine the dimensions of the opening. Suppose you chose the following: height 2000, width 800, box thickness 30 mm.

So:

  • Determine the width of the opening: 800 + 2x30 + 2x15 = 890 mm. Here, 15 mm is the size of the gap that must be left between the slopes of the opening and the box in order to be able to align it.
  • Determine the height of the opening. To do this, you need to decide whether your door will be with or without a threshold. If without a threshold, the calculation is as follows: 2000 + 30 + 15 + 10 = 2055 mm. Here 10 mm is the gap that must be left under the door.

If the threshold is, then add instead of 10 mm its height.

  • We get the required dimensions of the opening: 890x2055 mm. They can fluctuate in one direction or another by several millimeters - this is not critical.

If you decide not to touch the doorway, and order or pick up the right one for it, do the calculation from the reverse. Subtract the size of the technological gaps from the available sizes, and get the dimensions with the box.

Otherwise, the size of the sliding door is calculated. They are not so dependent on the size of the opening as the swing. Usually they are made above the opening by 5-6 centimeters and approximately equal in width

Weight

What buyers pay attention to when making a choice: height, width, texture, color, design features, cost. Of course, it is very important that they fit into the interior. But few people pay attention to weight, and this parameter is also very important.

Know the weight is necessary for many reasons. First of all, this parameter affects the usability. Too heavy will be difficult to open to children and sick weak people. They can cause serious injury if someone inadvertently pushes them without seeing the person behind the door.

In addition, to install doors weighing more than 60-70 kg, you must use additional fastening elements - hinges, rollers, etc. That is, the weight of the door is important for comfort and safety of use.

Consider a few examples.

The design of the door with the filling of voids cellular filling

Solid wood hardwood - more than 20 kg per 1 sq. M. The perekleenny (pressed) massif is lighter than natural, since it is made from softer coniferous species of wood. Its weight is 15 kg per 1 sq.m.

With these data, it is easy to calculate how much a standard blind can weigh, taking into account the weight of locks, handles and other accessories from different materials:

how much weighs interior door
  • Plastic - 4-5 kg.
  • From glass - about 20 kg.
  • Wooden - from 25 to 40 kg.

But these figures cannot be considered final, as the weight also depends on how it is made.

It is very important to know how deaf veneered or laminated MDF doors are made. To facilitate the construction of the interior door, they are often made hollow inside or filled with cellular (honeycomb) cardboard. In this case, they can weigh no more than 10 kg. If it is made of a wooden frame, lined on both sides with solid MDF sheets, or if thick tempered glass is inserted into the door, it will be much heavier.

The heaviest are deaf oak doors. Their use is reasonable in cases where it is necessary to give the room solidity and some brutality. But the same effect can be achieved if you install lighter veneered doors. This will allow you to use it with great comfort and save yourself from the cares of caring for a rather capricious natural wood.
