Making the doorway: the secrets of harmonious design
Before we talk about how to make a doorway, we note that it is necessary to consider the options, taking into account the finishing of the interior as a whole. Only in this case it will be possible to create a positive aesthetic impression, and the result will be able to please the inhabitants of the house.
The instruction presented below will not only tell you about the beautiful design of doorways, but also will orient readers in the matter of selecting materials that can be used for this purpose. Good visual help, serve as a video in this article.
Concepts for the design of openings
Despite the fact that people's tastes differ greatly, there are certain stylistic techniques that help to achieve harmony in all situations. Modern man is harder to surprise with something, and, nevertheless, interior design specialists present more and more unexpected creative ideas, including those concerning the design of door openings.
The attitude towards them is twofold: on the one hand, the door is needed, since it best of all ensures the privacy of a single room. Yes, and the door itself can have such an interesting design that all other accessories in the room just fade away on its background. On the other hand, very often you can do without them - so why spend money?
Wide slopes
When installing doors, in any case, traditional interior doors (see Installing interior doors - videos from professionals), you can not think much about the design of openings. When buying wooden and MDF doors, you can always purchase complete strips that will allow to revet a slope throughout the thickness of the door to match the joinery.
- Another thing is that on sale you will not always find the bar of the desired width - which most often happens when there is a door opening for the front door. The entrance to the house or apartment is always located on the supporting wall, and its thickness is at least 25 cm. In addition, at the entrance most often two doors are mounted, each of which is installed flush with the wall surface.

- In this case, the question: "How to arrange the doorway of the front door?" Can be answered simply. Nothing better than refined sheet material is impossible here and to think. It can be not only laminated or veneered chipboard, but also vinyl-coated gypsum board, which is called gypsum vinyl.
- The space between the two doors can be simply plastered and or leveled with drywall, painted to match the doors or walls in the hallway. Here the choice is not so great, since the presence of two doors in the opening imposes certain restrictions in its decoration.
- When the door at the entrance is one, the slopes are usually trimmed the same way as the wall to which they adjoin. Depending on the design of the hallway, they can be revetted with stone or brick tiles, as well as sheathed MDF panels - if this finishing option was used for the hallway walls.

Anyway, no matter what panels are used in wall finishing: classic wood, 3D gypsum or eco panels, polyurethane wall panels - all this can be used to finish wide slopes. If they are narrow, then there are not so many options: use dobora, selected by the texture to the door, or just plaster or glue with wallpaper, and frame a decorative plastic corner.
Advantages of a door with a smooth cloth
When it comes to openings between adjacent rooms, there are disproportionately more suitable options for decoration. First, there may be no door in them - and even if there is one, it can be made invisible if desired.
At the same time, her canvas is decorated with a wall in the same style, and that there is a door there, you can guess only by the presence of the door handle. Loops - and those are not visible, since in this case, use options for flush mounting. If you look at the photo below, you can see that the usual interior sticker was used for the decoration of the doorway.

In this case, it is glued to the wall by stepping on the door leaf, and not so much hides the door as attracts attention to it. It is clear that not any opening can be arranged in this way.
To do this, a special door must be installed, with a hidden installation of the box, which is not closed from the front side of the casing, but simply plastered. Well, then everything is as usual: plaster, primer, painting.
Door wallpapers
Hidden door and can be identified on the wall, and best of all for this purpose fit door wallpapers. They can also be used for an ordinary panel wooden door - but only on condition that its canvas will be puttied and treated with a primer. Otherwise, the wallpaper will simply not stay on the surface.
This landscape, which we see below, door accessories only spoils. Therefore, many designers offer to install pendulum doors that can be opened in either direction with a slight push of the hand. Here they can be fully made invisible - unless, of course, to revet the canvas in the same way as the adjoining wall.

Note! It is not necessary to hide the door at all, but on the contrary, you can focus on it - even with the help of the same photo wallpapers. Only it should not be, for example, a bright spot on the light wall. In order for the picture to be harmonious, the same colors that dominate the door leaf must be present in the wall decoration.
If the door is mounted without a trim, then a border made of paint made around the perimeter of the opening with a small indentation would look just fine. The floor baseboard is also selected for the color - or instead of it they paint the same color strip as around the door.
In general, the options can be mass, but whatever one may say, the finish of the opening depends largely on the design and appearance of the door.
Free doorway decor
In small apartments often have to abandon the door, as they require a certain place to open. Even if they are not swinging, but sliding, they take up the place anyway - if not on the floor, so on the wall.
After all, for the movement of the canvas, a guide must be installed over the opening, and the wall should be free within a radius of one and a half meters on each side.
Curtains
Due to the lack of free space and you have to figure out how to arrange the doorway in the Khrushchev, using alternative options. And they, as you understand, are.
Take the same curtains: this is not only a wonderful way to keep the entire area of the room free, but also a great opportunity to decorate a room in a certain style:
- There are quite a few such styles that imply the design of doorways with fabrics.. These include classic and English styles; Provence and patchwork; boudoir types of Baroque or Chanel. They are suitable not only for decoration of premises in a cramped apartment, but also, for example, in a studio-type room - for visual highlighting of functional areas.

- Naturally, the fabric on the curtains should be chosen not only in color, density and texture, but also visually harmonize with furniture upholstery, wall decoration, or floor covering. The safest option when the curtains on the doors duplicate the curtains on the windows, or just well arranged in shades. As for the pattern on the fabric, it must comply with the concept of style.
- Printed cotton or satin fabrics in flowered or bright stripes, more suitable for patchwork or Provence styles. In the English style - this is a Scottish cell, or plain drape with lambrequins. In a large room with a high ceiling and good natural lighting, light fabrics with geometric patterns will look great - which we actually see in the example presented below.

- However, the issue price with such interior design can be quite high. In order for the curtain to look beautiful, the fabric should be gathered - hence a decent consumption of material, plus everything you need to buy a beautiful cornice. For those who can not afford it, there are more simple sentences.
For example: these are rope, cotton, and even magnetic curtains, which are installed according to the type of mosquito nets. Of course, the opening leading to the living room, with such a design will not look very good, but, for example, between the kitchen and the loggia - will be what you need.
Partitions with openings
The variant with curtains, of course, is interesting, but: firstly, it does not fit into most modern interior styles, and secondly, it is suitable mainly for small rooms. And who said that the openings in general need something to veil. This is only required for bathrooms and bedrooms.
But in the living room, why do we need a door:
- In private houses and cottages there are openings in various places - for example, at the entrance from the stairs to the hall, or from the lobby to the stairs. There are no need for doors there, so openings are simply decorated with decorative brick, natural or artificial stone (see Doorway: how to finish stone), trim with decorative plaster, or, if the walls are thick enough, install wooden or polyurethane portals.

- If in small apartments people tend to get rid of not only doors, but also partitions, in large apartments, on the contrary, they mount partitions with openings. They allow you to better organize the space, and simply decorate the interior. Sometimes, by the way, the decoration is not a facial finish of surfaces, but an interesting shape of the opening.
- Plasterboard has endless possibilities, which allows you to create from it designs of any configuration. Recently curvilinear partitions have become popular, but some masters are too keen on transformation. Sometimes you look at such an interior, and it seems as if I got into some kind of "kingdom of curved mirrors."

- It's one thing when curly elements are used just for beauty in a partition. But when an asymmetrical opening is made in it - this is too much. If you want your interior to have harmony, remember that any opening must be correct from a geometric point of view.
- Let it not be a rectangle or a square, let it be an oval or a semicircle - but it must be symmetrical, as in the photo above. Arches like many, and this architectural element is not invented today. There are only a few of their species, and they differ in the form of the vault.

- If you want to turn an existing standard doorway into an arch, then you have only a few options: a semicircle, an ellipse, romance and modern. How they look, you can easily find if you wish. Despite the fact that the arches are different in shape, they are necessarily symmetrical.
As for the wide openings, or as they are called: portals, then there is nothing better than the traditional rectangle and not to invent. Well, their design can be anything: from wooden panels - to painting on plaster, which most of us can do with our own hands.
