Interior door frame width in standard and non-standard sizes
Interior doors play an important role in interior decoration. The door is a kind of "barrier" that allows to distinguish one room from another. In this case, the width of the door frame of the interior door should be correctly chosen so that there are no obstacles when a person moves, moving furniture and other objects.
Door dimensions
In the manufacture of the doorway, the width of the door frame can be selected in standard sizes or larger / smaller, taking into account the purpose of the room and the desire of its owner. For houses and apartments it is recommended to make room openings less than to enter the dwelling.
The standard size for the width of the entrance door leaf is chosen more than 800 millimeters. Interior doors have a width: 600, 700, 800 millimeters.

Sometimes the owners specifically expand the opening to 900 millimeters.
Tip: When designing and installing a doorway in the room, it should be borne in mind that large furniture is very difficult to make in the opening width of 600 millimeters. The optimal value is 800 millimeters. The same dimensions should be chosen for the bathroom, which will make it possible to bring a washing machine and other large-sized equipment without any problems.
For the door frame, the standard dimensions are shown in the table:
Door height, cm | Height of the opening, cm | Web width, cm | Opening width, cm |
190 | 194 — 203 | 60 | 67 — 70 |
200 | 204 — 211 | 90 80 70 60 | 97 – 100 87 – 90 77 – 80 67 — 70 |
Double doors | |||
From two cloths of the same width. | 60 | 67 — 70 | |
From canvases of different widths | One 60, the second 40/80 | 107 – 110 147 — 150 |
From the table it can be seen that the canvas is chosen not less than 7 cm less than the doorway. But, this should take into account the thickness of the door frame.

For example, if the thickness of the box is 30 millimeters, which corresponds to the minimum size of a laminated simple door, it is sufficient to increase the width of the opening by only 6 centimeters. But for veneered or telescopic boxes this will not be enough. They are thicker, plus an additional gap for blowing foam.
Opening measurement

For those who like to do everything with their own hands and reduce the cost of work, a short instruction is offered to help you correctly and quickly perform doorway measurements:
- Measurement should be carried out on the "bare" walls. To do this, remove the door leaf and box before starting work.
- The distance between the walls is measured in several places: top, bottom and center.. The smallest value is recorded.
Tip: If you fail to dismantle the door leaf and box, measure the door leaf or size from the center of one of the platbands to the center of the other opposite platypus. This will give approximate digits for the opening.

- The distance from the lowest point of the floor to the top of the opening is measured. or the distance between the floor and the center of the upper platband is calculated if the box is not removed.

- Depth of opening equals wall width. Therefore, the width of each wall is measured: on both sides of the opening and on top or the thickness of the door frame is measured, the wall protruding behind it is added to it, if there is one.
Calculation of the size of the opening
After taking measurements, you can correctly calculate the size of the door leaf.
This takes into account:
- The height of the door leaf and its width.
- The thickness and width of the door frame.
- The width of the platbands.
- If there is a threshold, its size.
For an example, the calculation of the opening for the door leaf with dimensions is taken:
- Height - 2 meters.
- Width - 80 centimeters.
- The thickness of the box for the door - 25 millimeters.
When calculating the size of the opening for an interior door, it is necessary to add to the width of the door the thickness of the box on both sides. In addition, the calculation takes into account installation clearances on each side, approximately 15-20 millimeters.
The width of the opening will be equal to: 800 + 25 + 25 + 15 + 15 = 880 millimeters. An example for counting is presented in the photo.

This width of the doorway is almost ideal for manufacturers of interior doors. Doors are easily installed in standard dimensions of openings for residential premises.
The height of the opening is calculated in the same way, taking into account the mounting clearances and the presence of a threshold. The height of the doorway will be: 2000 + 25 + 10 + 15 = 2050 millimeters.
As a result, for the door leaf with dimensions of 2 x 0.8 meters, the opening in the wall is 2.05 x 0.88 meters.

What is the thickness of the door frames? Usually the standard size is 75 millimeters. This must be considered when installing the door.
Otherwise, you will need to use the box extender or cut it along. In this case, problems may arise during the subsequent installation of the platbands, which will lead to damage to the appearance of the door.

To determine the parameters of the wall in three places need to measure its thickness from all sides. If the parameters around the perimeter of the doorway are the same, the order of the interior door with non-standard dimensions is carried out. At different thicknesses in these points, the door frame is sawn or added.

Viewing the video in this article will allow you to correctly calculate the opening for the installation of the door leaf, taking into account the style, characteristics of materials, and operating conditions.
Assignment of an additional element

The additional element is a bar that is used to expand the beam of the used box for opening.

It is used to close a section of the wall that is not closed by the box bar. The width of the required dobor is calculated by measuring the wall thickness in the doorway, and the width of the box beam is subtracted from the value obtained.
The standard width of the interior door box is 7 centimeters. With a larger wall thickness, installation of dobor is required. The exception is the use of “G” shaped platbands.

Tip: When purchasing doors, you must consider the largest size of the wall thickness at the opening. Otherwise, the box will be less than the width of the wall, and the casing will not fit tightly on the wall and box.
If such a defect is obtained, it is necessary to use alabaster or gypsum mortar for smearing the gap.
The width of the door is equal to or larger than the part of the wall to be closed. For example, with a wall width of 12 centimeters, and a box width of 8 centimeters, a minimum of 4 centimeters wide is required.
Features of the dobor
Before you mount the trims on the door frame, you should be familiar with the advantages of installing them:
- High speed of installation of the block extended for the doors.
- There are no "wet" processes during finishing, unfavorable for wood.
- The big period between the next repairs.
- Aesthetics that ensures the integrity and beautiful appearance of the door structure.
- A small price slats.

Assembled into a single whole three components of the extender-dobor, resemble the letter P, you can mount it:
- Straight to the door box.
- To the wall, at the place of installation of the opening.
- On the assembly bar, placed between dobory and vertical planes of the opening.
In the absence of a special mechanical load, you can only use liquid nails to fix it in a specially made recess. But more often galvanized screws are used for mounting.

Tip: If the fixation is performed from the front side, it is necessary to hide the fastener caps with mastics or plugs matched to the box.
Types of dobor
Doors can be purchased for home improvement:
- With the boxes, in which a groove was chosen in advance in the outer side for correct alignment with dobory.
To do this, you can use chipboard or wood slats, one centimeter thick. The width of the slats-panels is measured with a box mounted in the opening, which will be the basis of the design. At the same time, the element is nailed on the back side of the opening with galvanized small studs with a step from 20 to 35 centimeters. You can insert the strips into the groove, and then fix them in the box opening with glue.
- Without groove with a box bar. In this case, you can:
- choose a groove with a milling machine with a special straight cutter;
- attach the boxes to the timber through the pre-drilled through self-tapping screws from the end of the element;

Tip: For attaching the additional strips to the box, the diameter of the through holes throughout the length is not the same. First, the drill is taken with a diameter equal to the cap of the screw, then the size of its trunk.
- Additional elements are installed on the bars bolted to the wall with screws. The first of them is located 200 millimeters from the floor, and then in increments of 60 centimeters;
- drawers with a box "sit down" inside the base of plywood or drywall;
- the box beam without groove is connected to the slats by the rail installation, which runs from the outside of the opening along the alignment line;
- the rail or plywood rail is fastened around the perimeter not in a continuous strip, but in individual segments.
To the rail is nailed bar and strips dobor. In this case, the central axis of the rail and the connection line must coincide or have a small displacement.

After assembly, the extreme dobor line is flush with the line of the door opening. Surpluses up to one millimeter are shattered with a plane, and then everything is closed on a cash basis.
Installation dobor
Usually, the top bar, combined with the lintel, is superimposed on two vertical parts.

In order to calculate its length, it is necessary to add two thickness of finishing posts to the length of the lintel. But you can put the bar between them. The length of the stitching dobor is chosen according to the width of the box, and the height of the upper and lower bars is added to the heights of the left and right vertical elements.

Installation procedure:
- With scrupulous accuracy, measurements are made according to a scheme that corresponds to the chosen method of fastening.
Tip: For the right and left dobor, the vertical size is measured separately. At the same time, the inner line of the future plank should be measured along the box, and the outer line in the opening in fact.
- The board is cut according to measurements and according to the construction scheme.
- All three additional elements are attached to the assembled door frame.
- When fastening the slats to the box that is not installed in the opening, it is installed together with them.
- Between the wall and the door base are mounting wedges and they are leveling the device in the opening.
- The foam is added to the installation gap before installation of the spacer wedges, between the box beam and the dobor.
- Zapenivanie the entire space is carried out in portions, not less than two steps. The adjustment of the curing process is monitored until the foam hardens.
- The work is completed by sealing the gap formed between the wooden parts and the floor, and the installation of the platbands.
Properly executed expansion of the door frame allows you to arrange any opening quickly and efficiently. This is especially important when it is difficult to choose a standard finished design.
