Insulation for entrance doors: choose the appropriate
Why do we need to warm the doors. Insulation is designed primarily for noise and thermal insulation of premises from the outside world.
In addition, fillers help to increase the rigidity of the door leaf. The quality of the internal filling directly depends on how the entrance door will perform the basic functions assigned to it: heat and noise insulation.
There are several types of materials for internal filling:
- corrugated based honeycomb filling;
- Styrofoam
- polypropylene plates
- mineral wool
- Polyurethane foam

Types of insulation
Consider briefly the above heaters for entrance doors.
Cell Filling

The name is caused by a special method of laying filler in the door leaf, resembling a honeycomb layout. This method of filling creates the most efficient conditions for thermal and sound insulation (see. Sound insulation of entrance doors).
The main material used is, first of all, corrugated cardboard. This material has high rigidity parameters, possesses good resilience, both in vertical and horizontal directions.
Indicators of stiffness of corrugated cardboard due to the construction of the material: between the cardboard layers there is corrugated paper. Also among the advantages of corrugated cardboard include low weight, and relatively low prices.
Mineral wool
This heat-insulating material is made from mineral raw materials (rocks of silicate melts). Mineral wool has a fibrous structure, which allows to obtain a material with high noise-absorbing and heat-shielding properties (see How to warm the front door).
Vata is a durable material, as it is resistant to moisture, external temperature conditions, chemicals, which also contributes to the extension of the life of the door itself.
The advantages of wool also include:
- high environmental friendliness of this material
- low cost

Among the shortcomings of mineral wool should be attributed to its ability to settle, resulting in some parts of the door voids are formed. To avoid these side effects, manufacturers often install additional ribs in the door to keep the cotton from slipping.
Foam rubber is sometimes used as a substitute for mineral wool, as insulation for doors. This material is very practical and easy to work. It is easily attached to the surface of the door leaf with glue or nails along its perimeter. The lack of foam rubber - it crumbles from the influence of moisture in a year.
Styrofoam

Currently, the foam is considered as one of the most effective materials in terms of thermal insulating properties. The thermal conductivity of the material is so high that the best heat insulator is only vacuum insulation, which is expensive and not always convenient.
It provides excellent hydro, noise and thermal insulation:
- Главный плюс Styrofoamа — невысокая цена.
- Основной минус — неспособность противостоять огню. Styrofoam выделяет крайне токсичные продукты горения.
Polyurethane foam

Прочный и легкий вид наполнителя — прекрасный insulation for the front door.
The production of polyurethane foam is based on the introduction of special substances with foaming properties. It uses pistols or nozzles.
There are two main varieties of this material:
- hard (cells are closed and filled with gas)
- elastic polyurethane (open cells).
The main advantages of the material include:
- Low weight
- Compliance with high environmental standards
- Resistance to environmental influences (heat resistance, water resistance, resistance to shock)
- Excellent insulating properties
Foam plates
This type of filling has absorbed almost all the best properties of competing materials.
- Foam plates are unique in that they are able to provide the best thermal insulation, waterproofing and sound insulation properties at the same time.
- In addition, polypropylene has a high resistance to tensile and compressive loads. Due to a more uniform distribution of pores in the volume, polypropylene is less prone to water absorption, has a lower thermal conductivity in comparison with other materials.
Choosing one or another heater of the entrance door, you need to remember that the selected material will directly affect the consumer properties of the door. As a general rule: the better the filler, the more expensive it is.
Also it should be borne in mind that buying a door, you can not know exactly what exactly is acquired door. You can ask the seller about this, or view the product documentation.
