If you have to embed the lock in the interior door, this article will help you determine the type of lock and cope with the work yourself without the involvement of specialists.

Types of locks - choose the right one

The choice is based primarily on its appearance. Mortise for interior doors are usually sold complete with a door handle or are one whole with it. If there are several closed openings in the room, then the handle should not differ much from the accessories of other doors:

• Spherical shape Knos are called, sometimes they are supplied with pressure. Knobes are not always equipped with a lock: they may have no locking function at all or have a rotary lock on the latch tongue.
• On the outlet also come with a latch or a turnkey lock, which are installed under the handle.

Installation

To begin with - we will pick up tools.

Tools needed for work

If you are faced with a similar task for the first time, buy a special set consisting of a crown on a tree with a diameter of 50 mm, a guide drill with a diameter of 6 mm and a feather drill with a diameter of 22 or 25 mm.

In addition to these tools, you will need:

• drill,
• stameska,
• chisel,
• building corner,
• pencil.

Installation with handle knob

As a rule, do-it-yourself insert the frame after installing the door (see How to install the interior door yourself) in the opening. You can embed and not hung, but the hole for the tongue or latch and the installation of the strike plate is still done after installation, otherwise they may not match.

To install the lock, you need to drill two holes: one in the end, for the latch, and the second in the canvas itself to install the handle.

 Note! Insert lock can be carried out at any distance from the floor. In frame doors, the frame for the frame is installed at a height of 100 cm from the bottom edge. If you do not take into account this distance, you can spoil the door leaf.

• Make a marking, measuring 965 mm from the bottom edge of the web, and from the end - the length of the lock latch. It can be 60-70 mm. The point at the intersection of these lines is the center of the future hole for the handle.
• Fix the guide drill and the bit on the drill and drill a hole in the web in two stages: first on one side and when the guide drill passes through - on the other. If you allow the crown to pass completely through the web, it can damage it at the exit.
• Install a drill bit on the drill and, after marking on the end, drill a hole for the latch. If necessary, expand it to the desired size with a chisel.

• Install the decorative ring and the inner handle itself by pressing it until it clicks.
• Attach the outer part provided with the sleeves for the screws to the hole from the outside. On the other hand, attach the inside with the holes and tighten both halves with screws.
• Disassemble the inside of the handle-knob and remove the decorative ring from it.
• Secure the latch with screws.
• Place the latch in the hole and draw the contours of the latch plate with a pencil. Then sample it using a chisel. If the door is veneered, first cut a layer of veneer with a knife.
• To set the reciprocal bar, lock the door and notice the place where the latch pull tab rests. Drill a hole for it. Attach a reciprocal bar to the box, draw outlines with a pencil and use a chisel to sample the required depth. Secure the bar with screws.

Installing the handle on the outlet

If you want the mortise locks to be located not under the handle itself, but beneath it, the handle on the socket will be more suitable for you. The technology of its installation differs from that described in that it will be necessary to make a rather large sample for the size of the lock in the end, and to drill two holes in the canvas: a keyhole (or a rotary lock) and a square handle.

So:

1. Attach the lock to the door and circle it with a pencil. Then, with the help of a corner, transfer the marking lines to the end and connect their centers with a vertical line. Using it as an axis, set aside half width in both directions and draw a rectangle.
2. Using the chisel bit worn on the drill, drill holes along the centerline to the depth of the lock body, and then select the nest with a hand chisel.
3. Insert into the nest and circle the contour of the front lining with a pencil, then choose chisel wood on the thickness of the lining.

1. Using the square, mark on the canvas the position of the well and the square of the handle, drill holes.
2. Insert the lock in place and secure the cover with screws.
3. Fasten the handle to the door with screws using the holes in the flange and close them with a decorative ring.
4. Install the striker plate in the door frame, as described in the previous version.
