How to adjust the metal front door: practical tips

The causes of these troubles can be different: from marriage or improper installation of the door to the temporary wear of components. The solutions depend on the specific model and the reasons for the malfunction. Often it will be enough to adjust it.

Causes and stages of door adjustment

If adjustment is required, and the guarantee for it has already expired or it has not existed at all, then we will have to arm ourselves with the instrument and, with the help of our advice, fix the problem.

Adjusting the door when squeaks

Creaking at the front door is a common phenomenon. It can appear at any door, regardless of the manufacturer's brand.

There are 2 reasons for squeaking at the door:

1. Grasping the canvas on the box.
2. Clogged loops.

Before you do something, you need to find out exactly the nature of squeaks. Let us consider in more detail how the adjustment should occur in this case.

So:

• The friction of the door itself on the box holding it is easy to detect. To do this, find traces of scuffs on the surface. If you realized it in time, and no visible traces have yet formed, then simply by hearing determine the place of friction.
• After finding the location of the squeak, you can begin to adjust. To do this, you may need:

1. socket wrench 17;
2. hex key;
3. "Candle" key.

• First, depending on the number of hinges (see Types of door hinges: consider in detail), you need to loosen one or two medium ones.
• Next, loosen the top or bottom loop. The one to which friction is closer.
• Now you need to move and move the canvas to the box.
• After that, you need to tighten the nut on the extreme loop and slightly shake the canvas. Make sure that the loops are in the "native" place.
• Further adjustment requires checking the result: try closing and opening the door several times. At the same time the door handle should be lowered to the bottom.
• If the creaking does not disappear, then repeat all the above steps.

Note! After this adjustment, a small gap may appear between the end of the blade and the box. If this happens, simply lubricate the surface of the end face with a graphite-based lubricant.

The cause of squeaking loops is the ingress of dust into their mechanism. Often this happens during repairs.

In such a situation, it is easy to correct the situation. You must first blow the surface with air under pressure. Then lubricate the hinges.

Remember that a WD tool is not lubricating! It can only be used to remove the effects of "boiling" threaded or swivel joints.

Adjustment of entrance doors in case of bad porch

A situation is possible when the door is loose or vice versa is too tightly covered. There are several reasons and ways to eliminate this.

In grievous detention:

• If you just put the door (see Installation of metal entrance doors), then due to the novelty of its seal it can be difficult to close. At the same time the handle will turn tight. Only time will help in this situation - after a week or two, the sealing gum will not be so elastic.
• Another reason for the canopy curtain is the incorrect entry of the locking tongue into its hole in the false part of the box. This problem is often in cheap "Chinese" copies.

• The solution in this case is not difficult - you need to find the bar in the recess where the tongue goes. On it there is a thin plate (one or two), bent inward. Bending it in different directions, you can achieve the desired degree of density porch.
• In low-cost models there may be a marriage (see How to choose the front door to the apartment) - the size of the entrance for the bolt and the tongue of the lock is less than necessary or located slightly to the side. You can fix this situation with the help of a file.

How to adjust with backlash door leaf (too light a porch):

• The main reason for this problem is the wear of the seal of the false part of the canvas. It will be enough to replace the sealing tape.

Note! Before replacing the seal, make sure that the width of the vestibule is the same over the entire length of the web. If so, glue the seal on the entire edge of the door. If not, seal only where the gap is greatest.

• If everything is in order with the seal, then try to achieve a tight door opening by adjusting the antennae of the plate, which includes the tongue of the lock (see above).
