Let's deal with this issue and decide what is right for you. There will be an opportunity to see photos and videos on this topic and you can make the right choice.
Finishing materials
With all the volume of materials necessary to make the right choice. Material for finishing door slopes are selected depending on the elements of the door trim, everything should be harmonious and correct.
Laminate for door finishing
In its structure, laminate, it is the same hardboard, only has a higher strength, which is covered during the production of decorative film.

So:
- This material is suitable for those who like the look of wood. and at the same time there is no necessary amount of money for expensive finishing (see. Finishing of doors: options and methods);
- This material does not react and temperature drops and perfectly tolerates the sun's rays;
- This finish is quite moisture resistant. But this is at relatively low humidity. For example, you should not do such a finish door in a private house. With heavy snow and heavy rain, this material can quickly become unusable. Immediately jarred him. However, this problem can be solved. You just have to take when buying a material with an additional layer of film coating. Then this coating serves as additional protection and can be washed without problems;
- The price of this material is not high, and practically any person can afford such finishing.
- This material practically does not accumulate dust;
- The disadvantages include the inability to conduct high-quality insulation.
Now we will understand, than to finish door slopes when performing a door from a laminate. Perhaps in this embodiment, the simplest will be plastering. But if you want to do wood decoration, then you should pay attention to the trim from wood or MDF (see How to install the trim on the door),
Imitation leather for door trim
This material is used for quite a long time to finish the entrance to a room. It was still in Soviet times. Only the coverage itself since that time has become better.

So:
- The price of the material is quite cheap.and it attracts the consumer;
- This element is relatively fire resistant.. It simply does not burn, but smolders under direct influence;
- Resistant to temperature extremes;
- This is a waterproof material. which practically does not absorb moisture;
- New materials are well tolerated by the direct rays of the sun;
- It is an environmentally friendly product.that does not harm human health;
- It is possible to make a rather high-quality insulation (see How to insulate a metal door with your own hands: we do it wisely). And you can select almost any layer;
- But there is a drawback, such a material can easily be mechanically damaged.
Powder coating for the door
This method of finishing metal doors (see Finishing metal doors - create your own style) entered the market relatively recently, but has already found quite a few fans. The coating is made by applying to the surface a metal powder and a polymer mixture by spraying. This powder possesses high anti-corrosion properties and fully protects the surface.

So:
- This coating perfectly resists the effects of the environment, it is not affected by the temperature difference;
- This finish is perfect for facing the front door, even if it is installed in the entrance;
- Spraying has great durability. It is enough for more than a dozen years. The longer it does not require expensive care, it is possible to use any detergent only of non-abrasive origin;
- It is possible to make the surface and glossy and matte. Available there are many colors and shades;
- This finish has its drawbacks. It is warm and soundproof. There are practically none. It is not necessary to arrange the door so (see. Design of the front door: we decorate it with taste), which immediately leads to the living room. This is not a heat-sensitive design.
Door trim clapboard
This option is also used for quite some time. There are pluses to be aware of.

So:
- Lining itself is already a protection for the metal door. This extends the life of the product;
- Wood increases and the heat capacity of the door. Allows to keep heat indoors longer;
- In many ways, the issue of sound insulation, which increases several times, will be resolved;
- This coating looks quite impressive. There is the possibility of processing Marilka and other dyes;
- The disadvantages include maintenance of the structure. It takes time and money.
Attention: If you decide to use this type of finish, then you should not forget that the material should be treated with antiseptics that are commercially available before installation. This will significantly extend the life of the product.
MDF door trim
This material appeared on the sales market not long ago. It has many advantages worth mentioning.

So:
- This material is quite resistant to deformation that may occur from environmental exposure;
- When installing and serves as an additional insulation for a metal door. The coating eliminates heat loss through the coating;
- The advantages should also include the durability of the structure. The material will serve for many years;
- There is an opportunity to realize a set of design decisions. Elements can have many forms. In retail there are a large number of colors of these products;
- This is an environmentally friendly product that is not harmful to humans;
- Not a high price, also attracts a buyer;
- The disadvantages include the fact that such a material is quite complicated during the restoration. If the damage is serious, then you have to replace the entire web.
These were the main types of door trim. Now let's pick up materials for trim door slopes.
I think everyone understands that it is better to do the work of the material from which the door is made. Let's see how to decorate the front door doorway.
Decking
This work and material must be in harmony with the whole door structure. But sometimes it may not be possible to apply the same element. Let's see what can be done to finish the slopes.
Plaster and putty slopes
This finish is often used for this work. It is quite strong and can always be restored.
Moreover, it does not take much time and effort. All the work can be done with your own hands and without resorting to outside help.
So:
- For the conduct of the work you will need the following tool: as a rule, building level, trowel, trowel, sandpaper, beacons, mortar, painting tape.
- To begin, clean the plane from the previous coating, for this we use a brush for metal;
- Now the surface should be primed. This will allow the coating to have a stronger grip. It is better to give preference to deep penetration fluid. After processing the surface should dry out;
- After complete drying, cover the box with masking tape, it is simply glued on the edge of the surface;
- Now we make a solution in the ratio of sand and cement 3: 1 when applying cement M-300. In this case, we need to achieve a completely homogeneous mass. For this, it is best to use a drill with a nozzle, then the solution will be of high quality;
- After that, we take the solution thicker and install beacons. To do this, take a long rail and determine the level of application of the mixture. After that, the beacons are mounted on the plane;
Attention: If after checking it turns out that you need to apply a thick layer, then you should apply a building mesh, it should be applied to the surface. It will allow to keep to a thicker layer of material.
- To begin, we throw the solution into places where a thick layer is required. Give a little dry solution and then apply another layer. After that, take a rule or a wide spatula and start pulling the solution along the beacons;
- If you have a thick layer, then this work will have to be done several times. To complete alignment of the plane;
- After the surface is completely dry, puttying should be done. Let it dry. Coat the surface with a primer. And you can paint.
Now you know how to trim the slopes of the entrance door, the tact of how this type of finish is used most often in such elements.
We make plasterboard slopes
This finishing option is most often used when applying a very large layer of plaster:
- For this work, we will need the following tools and materials: drywall, usually a level, adhesive for drywall, elbow, putty;
- When everything is ready, you can get to work. To begin, determine the level of the plane. To do this, use a wooden rail with a flat plane. We place its correct placement using a level;
- After that, we need to cut the drywall in the desired width. To do this, put the sheet on a flat surface. Mark the cut line with a pencil. Shift this line from the level of the table by 5 mm. We attach the rail. We make an incision with a stationery knife. Shift the sheet from the pillar a couple of mm. Making a break in this rake should lie pressed on the break line. We clean the edge with a planer;
- Now just put the cut sheet on the glue. We are waiting for complete drying and then do the putty surface.
Caution: When sticking, make sure that the item is placed correctly. This should be verified with a building level.
Slopes with MDF
This option will suit the owners, whose door is made of this material.
Let's look at how this is done:
- The following materials and tools should be prepared: MDF, decorative corner, wooden slats, drill, rotary hammer drill;
- The first thing we need to determine the level of attachment of the plane. To do this, we berm wooden rail and try on. The correctness of the installation is determined by the construction level;
- Now should be nailed on the plane of the slats of wood. MDF will be attached to them. This is done using a perforator. First we make holes and then we make the connection with dowels;
Attention: Do not use dowels, which are sold in sets, for fastening. You should buy plastic soothers and after that separate screws, which should be taken a couple of mm. less of the opening section of the plastic. Such a connection will make the mount strong enough and reliable.
- After this we do the fastening of MDF. To do this, do not use large nails without caps or cleats. If you decide to use screws, then first you need to make a hole for the screw itself, and after that use a larger diameter drill to make a hole for hidden tongues;
- The extreme panel, which is located in the corner, should be screwed tightly and then covered with a decorative corner;
- After that, to hide the edge, attach decorative corner.
Now you know how to trim door slopes. This is not such a difficult job, the more instruction you have. The most important thing is not in a hurry and do everything consistently.
