Fiberboard doors and their types

Doors

Sheet and profile materials made from wood chips and fibers are extremely in demand in the manufacture of furniture and interior doors. The main reason for this is quite good durability, as well as a lower price compared to a tree, which by and large is the main guideline for the vast majority of people.

Today we will talk about how to assemble, and how to refine the door of fiberboard. For those who want to do their large-scale manufacturing, we offer to watch the video in this article entitled: "Fiberboard doors: production."

Fiberboard in the door industry

From chipboard, fiberboard differ only in the size of the filler. Otherwise, their production technologies are similar. As for fiberboard, these plates differ in density, which naturally affects the strength of the material, and, accordingly, delimits the scope of their application.

Note! Super hard and hard plates are mainly used in furniture production, for the installation of rough floors, and in the production of floor laminate boards. Soft fiberboard for this application do not suit at all, since it is more a heat-insulating material than a constructive one. But the semi-solid sheets, as well as their counterpart - medium density plates, which are commonly called MDF, are simply ideal for door production.

So:

  • Doors of fiberboard simple, not having a facial finish - you can see it in the photo, as well as use refined material for this purpose. In the first case, the surface of the canvas can be pasted over with precious wood veneer in the production process, and in the end it looks no worse than a solid wood door.
  • As for the laminated doors, they can be attributed to the products of the budget plan, since they are cheaper only doors without finishing, intended for painting. By and large, semi-solid laminated wood fiber boards are the same as MDF. If average pressure is used in their production, then the density is also achieved as average.

The names of these materials are just a play on words - abbreviations accepted for the symbol in different countries. Most importantly, formaldehydes are not used in their production.

This means that MDF and MDF panels for doors are environmentally friendly and will not harm human health, even if the door made of them is installed in the bedroom.

The nuances of making doors

Materials with a fibrous structure rather intensively absorb moisture, and as a result, they deform over time. For this reason, they are not used for the manufacture of outdoor doors.

But for interior doors - not only interior or office, but also installed at the entrance to the apartment - this is a great and inexpensive material.

How is used DVP

As is known, the doors can be either shield, that is, deaf, or frame-shield, in which inserts are provided, the role of which is played by glass and / or panels. There are also tsargovye doors, which also belong to the category of frame-shield, but are distinguished by the fact that their canvas is recruited only from horizontal bars (middle pieces), inserted into the frame.

Note! It is much easier to make a panel door panel with your own hands than a panel or tsargovoe, since for this you do not need (although you can) to splice the bars at home. Simplify the task will help furniture shield. This is a sheet material that is produced by gluing pieces of wood - waste wood processing industry.

Production: Fiberboard doors are upgraded with laminate

So:

  • Cut the inside of the panel door of fiberboard will not work. The fact is that the thickness of the door leaf should be at least 40 mm, and the maximum thickness of semi-solid sheets is only 12 mm (with a laminate of 15-16 mm). Therefore, thicker furniture shields are used, and they are covered with simple or refined wood-fiber sheets above them.
  • On production, deaf canvases for doors are usually made of pine bars spliced together, or they provide for cellular filling. But as the upper plating applied either thin sheets of plywood or fiberboard. In this case, the sheets take not semi-hard, but solid, since the skin should be thin.

For reference * The thickness of solid wood-fiber sheets varies from 2.5 to 6 mm, whereas for semi-hard plates, 6 mm is the minimum - and for plating it is too much. In contrast, MDF boards can be up to 60 mm thick, which makes it possible to use them for the manufacture of any doors. And at the price it will be cheaper than with the use of a furniture shield, which is made, albeit from industrial waste, but still, natural wood.

Features of panel doors

If in the manufacture of panel doors fiberboard sheets are used only as a covering, then in the manufacture of panel doors, panels of fiberboard on the door can be used as the main material. Is their small thickness a nuisance in this case?

To understand this issue, you will help the instructions presented in this chapter:

  • The term "panel", derived from the German word "fullen" (stuffing, filling), refers to decorative inserts that fill the frame of the door. The inserts can be glass, of course, but the wooden dies are called panels that are inserted into a specially prepared socket. Most often they have a rectangular shape, but may be curved.

  • It is clear that it is almost impossible to make a curly panel at home, without special equipment. As for the rectangular version, its independent production is quite possible, and that is precisely what semi-solid fiberboard or MDF is used for this purpose.
  • The insert inside the frame of the door leaf can be of any thickness, so there are no restrictions on the use of the material. The panels of the door can be made from anything - from solid wood to a lined carpentry board (a type of furniture board).
  • In any case, the panel door leaf frame is assembled from a single planed or glued bar. Due to the fact that the greatest loads fall on the lower part of the door, it is always made deaf and, if possible, thicker. Two vertical pillars, interconnected by horizontally positioned mullions (bunks), which form the cells into which the panels are inserted.
Assembling the frame of the canvas of the bars
  • The presence of one centerpiece makes it possible to install two inserts - and this is the simplest version of a panel door. There are two main types of panels that are made for doors. One of them is called figarenaya, and the other is floating. Fiberboard is used mainly for making figarel panels, and in order to understand why, it is necessary to understand what the difference between them is.
  • The difference, again, in their thickness, which is of great importance, as well as in the method of attachment to the frame of the canvas. The insertion of a type of a milling machine is milled around the perimeter so that the end becomes thin, and easily fits into the grooves cut along the side faces of the pillars and center pieces.

Note! If the total thickness of the die from which the panel is made is 40 mm (in thickness of the door), then its edges after processing will have a maximum thickness of 12 mm. The thick part of the insert is called a figarea, and the thinned edges are called a cigar field.

Laminated panels of glued woodwork boards

From a semi-hard fiberboard, a beautiful panel does not work, since the maximum sheet thickness hardly exceeds the thickness of the field. This material can be made only flat panel, but on the doors in the room this option does not look - more often it is used for doors on cabinet furniture. Although, every rule has its exceptions, and doors with flat panels and beautiful designs will also be found.

Filler panels

For the manufacture of filler-type panels, an even thicker material is required than on a cigar. Due to the thickness of the inserts, a volume is created, and the visual and actual massiveness of the door is achieved. Therefore, for their manufacture they use either dies from solid wood or MDF, the thickness of which can reach 60 mm.

So:

  • As an option, for this purpose, take woodpieces, glued from the same fiberboard. The panels are attached to the frame in a completely different way. Here, on the contrary, the groove is not on the racks and the centerpiece, but goes along the perimeter of the panel.
  • On the frame elements there is also a groove, only it is not deepened, but has a U-shape. One of its shelves is inserted into the groove of the panel, and the second in the form of a projection covers the connection. These protrusions are called overhangs, and they can be present on one or both sides of the canvas.
Multiple entrance door
  • The option with floating panels can most often be seen on the entrance doors. In this case, not only the panels will be thicker, but also the frame of the canvas. After all, in order to cut two parallel dowels with a projection width of 15 mm each, and between them there would be the same groove, the thickness of the frame of 40 mm, as is the case with interior doors, is not enough.
  • By the way, two panels can be inserted into insulated doors in each cell. They look as if one naplavnuyu sawn cut along - that is, one side is completely flat, and the second figure.

In this case, the use of semi-solid fibreboard is most convenient, since for this purpose they are ideally suited for thickness. Because of the relief surface, the panel can only be painted after assembly. Therefore, for the manufacture of inserts take already refined - veneered or laminated material.
