At the same time, the doors for offices, retail outlets and industrial premises are so diverse that they can not be systematized.

It follows that standard dimensions are a concept that most often refers to residential premises, since dimensions for other types of premises are often determined individually for each case.

What should you know first?

In residential areas it is customary to install hinged. Folding, swiveling and other types are not so reliable and safe.

It is necessary to install the living space with an opening to the outside, this is done for a number of reasons:

• opening to the outside saves space in the hallway;

• one-and-a-half.

English system

Delving into the history, I would like to say that the English system of weights was adopted earlier during construction. The standard height was then a height of 6 feet and 6 inches or 6 feet and 8 inches (which was 198.1 centimeters and 203.2 centimeters, respectively).

The width of the then was in the range of 2 feet 3 inches or 2 feet and 9 inches (which was approximately 68-84 centimeters). But back to modern construction.

Metric system

The size of today is calculated using the metric system.

According to the developed SNiPs that relate to residential premises, the size of the openings should vary with the following indicators:

• 2170x70 millimeters;
• 2419x1910 millimeters.

It is also worth mentioning that when entering the apartment, the opening must be at least 910 millimeters.

If we consider all the gaps and the thickness of the box, the canvas that fits this opening has the following parameters:

• 2040-826 millimeters in the usual doors;
• 2050x860 / 960 millimeters in reinforced metal (see Installation of metal entrance doors. My own master);
• from 2000-2050x1600 millimeters in double-leaf.

With regret, it is worth noting that in modern construction all the necessary standards and regulations are not always followed. Therefore, the door entrance dimensions will have to be ordered under non-standard doorways.

Of course, you can use a standard door, having added the required dimensions with various special devices. The main thing before buying a new door, find out its exact dimensions.

How to measure?

Before you go to a specialized store and purchase a door, let's look at the question of the correct measurement of the height and width of your new door.

This is done in several stages:

• You will need access to the edge of the wall. In that case, if you already have an old one installed, then remove the trim plates, since the width and height of the doorway is measured clearly from one wall to another;
• if your opening is different from standard indicators, then it is recommended to expand or narrow it, on the basis of considerations that are faster and more economical;
• It often happens that when measuring the opening, various force majeure circumstances arise. Suppose a wall is sprinkled or fragile plaster, then it is necessary to start measuring and choosing after the elimination of these troubles;
