Double door unit: design features

23-01-2018
Doors

Qualitatively executed door with an interesting design, can even give the most modest interior some refinement. In some cases, for example: in the living room, in which a wide opening leads, a double door block looks best.

What are the design features of such doors, and are there any differences in the structure of the valves and their installation with their own hands, compared with doors that have one canvas? We will try to make our instructions cover these issues as detailed as possible - and the video in this article will help us.

Distinctive features of double doors

Doors have their own classification, and one of the signs that characterize them is the number of wings. Single-door door unit has only one leaf, double-sided - two.

There is such a thing as a half-door, which also has two doors, but only one of them has a half width. In the photo below as an example, you can see exactly this option.

So:

  • There are also three- and four-floor options, but among the swing doors they are rare. In general, doors with a large number of leaves open like a book or an accordion, and are more like a sliding wall than the door itself.
One-and-a-half door at the entrance to the house

  • In general, the number of paintings is calculated according to the width of the opening - and it is dictated by the functionality of the room and fire safety requirements. All double doors, apart from those equipped with swinging doors, require additional accessories in the form of latches for locking.

Cloth, fixed latch, becomes static. Often, only one canvas is used for entry and exit - the second door only opens when it is necessary to expand the doorway urgently: skip a large gathering of people, or bring dimensional furniture to the room.

In this regard, double doors are the most functional, and single-door door units cannot compete with them.

Other features

A door with two canvases, like any other door, is classified by purpose, material of manufacture, and structure of the canvases. Double-leaf doors are also external, front, interior and balcony (see. Balcony doors and all about them).

From materials for the manufacture of double doors used steel, aluminum, plastic, glass. But, of course, the most common material was and remains wood and its derivatives.

So:

  • Front doors, in fact, are also external, but since they are installed at the main entrance, they are distinguished by their massiveness, beauty, and certain pompousness. The usual external door is placed at the exit of the house in the courtyard or garage - it can be either deaf or glazed.

  • In the manufacture of interior wooden doors, use conifers - often pine. For front doors and outer doors, hardwood is used: beech, ash, oak, walnut. Many still prefer to install steel doors outside. Not that their price was much lower, but metal is metal: it is more durable and fireproof - and the tree cannot compete with it in terms of service life.
  • By the way, metal entrance doors by design, they can in no way yield to wooden doors. They are most often done with a transom over the fling open part into which the embossed or twisted glass is inserted. The paintings themselves, even though the doors and exterior, may also have partial glazing - but of course, of such dimensions that it would be impossible to get inside the room by breaking the glass.
Arched double door with panels and glazing
  • It would seem, why glass on the front door? The glazing here plays not only a decorative role.ь, but also solves the issue of natural lighting of the vestibule or hallway, in which most often there are no windows. At the entrance to the apartment these doors are usually not set. In general, all glazed doors are divided into half bright and bright.

In the first case, glass occupies one third of the area of the canvas, and in the second, two thirds. So the entrance doors installed in residential buildings are often half-light.

If the door, for example, plastic, with full glazing, the glass is installed reinforced, frosted. Inside the apartments, half-bright doors are usually placed in the kitchens, and light - in the hall and on the balconies.

Canvas designs

In terms of constructive, leaf double doors are no different from the doors of single-leaf. If we talk about wooden versions, they are also shield and frame. Shield, that is, smooth and without inserts, make, in the main, door cupboards double-sided.

Entrance and interior doors, most often represent a frame with internal filling, sheathed with thin solid wood-fiber sheets, or filled with decorative elements in the form of figured panels and / or glass. Moreover, the dimensions of these elements, as well as the doors themselves, can be very different

Door dimensions

Since in the large-scale construction all the work is carried out according to the project, then the dimensions of the openings, and accordingly, the doors, are calculated by the designers. There are not so many standard sizes of door blocks having two swinging shutters.

  • For typical residential and office premises, classrooms, school classes, etc. 2.2m blocks are provided; 2.3 m; 2.4 m; 2.6m There are only two widths: 1.29m and 1.39m - the width means the whole door block, not just one canvas.
Equal door with two leaves
  • But in general, if you look at what door manufacturers are offering us today, then you can see other options. For example, in unequal doors, the smaller sash is not half, but 1/3 or 2/3 of the third width of the large sash. It may look like this: 60 cm + 40 cm; or 90 cm + 40 cm.
  • As for equal doors, their width can be quite significant, for example: up to 90 cm + 90 cm. We are talking about swing doors as a traditional variant, since they are designed and installed in most houses and apartments.
Sliding door of colored glass
  • But in wide openings, today sliding doors are being installed more often, since using them does not require additional space to open the valves. You can easily install a larger number of wings, but their width does not exceed 95 cm. The canvases move to the sides along the guide, and do not create any problems related to the space of the room.
  • The height of the sliding doors is a maximum of 2.1 m. if it is not a door, but a sliding partition, then its height may be greater. All sizes, which we mention, are regulated by state standards, but of course, no one bothers you to order a door according to individual sizes. The largest are only all-glass canvases.

In the manufacture of doors, the main stumbling block is not even the dimensions of the valves, but the maximum weight of the valves, which is stipulated by all applicable standards and specifications.

Frame doors

If sheets of panel doors are assembled from spliced pine timber, then in frame-frame canvases there is a filling, which not only plays an aesthetic role, but also makes it possible to significantly ease the weight of the sheet, thereby reducing the load on the box.

  • For double doors this is doubly relevant, since they have two leaves. Therefore, most often, among the double doors, you can see either tsargovuyu or filleted structure. What are their fundamental differences?
Assembly scheme of the sash door leaf
  • The name of the royal canvas comes from the name of the main element from which it is assembled. This is a side bar - a transverse profile made of spliced pine bars, or MDF, and framing, inserts of frosted or sandblasted glass.
  • Tsargs are also present in the structure of panel paintings; only here they are more commonly referred to as middlemen, and are auxiliary elements. They structure the canvas, and separate the rows of inserts (panels) from each other, or delimit the deaf and glazed parts of the door.
  • Tsargovye doors are assembled only from transverse elements, which, in principle, can be located on the diagonal, or in the form of a zigzag. This gives inexhaustible possibilities for design, which is used by door manufacturers.
Tsarga made of spliced bars and covered with ekoshpon
  • Glazing in the Tsar's door can be minimal - only in the form of gaps between the centers. And it can be quite extensive when there are only three or four cross-beams in the structure of the canvas, and the rest is glass. In general, it is difficult to dispute the high aesthetics of tsargovy doors, because glass itself can be incredibly beautiful: mosaic, mirror, cut, or patterned.
  • The new technology, involving the combination of pine bars and MDF in the manufacture of middleware, made it possible to obtain fundamentally new characteristics of these elements. In addition to increased strength, products are protected from changes in their parameters, usually arising from materials as a result of thermal expansion.
Kind of frame-frame double door
  • The frame structure of the door leaf, makes it possible to provide in it absolutely any filling. Along with the glass, which not only decorates the door, but also contributes to a better insolation of the rooms, there are used panels as inserts. On the glass shutters they are located in the lower third; deaf canvases are assembled from panels and middle pieces, which fill the frame like elements of a puzzle.

Minimally, on this canvas there are two panels: a small one at the bottom, a large one at the top. If instead of a large panel there is a glazing, then on this area a layout is made of a narrow slab, to which small glasses are fixed.

As an option, a wooden door leaf can consist only of a frame and a glazing layout, which looks exceptionally well on double doors.

Decorative coating

If, thanks to a flat surface, the panel door can be laminated or veneered after it has been made, then for the manufacture of frame-frame doors you need an already refined material. The only exception is natural wood, which can be painted or tinted at any time, and which does not need any other decor.

  • If, however, for the manufacture of panels, or the same tsarg, a carpentry board is used (another name is “furniture panel”), or sheet MDF is used, then the material should have a decorative coating that can be monotonous, without a pattern, but more often imitates the natural wood pattern.
  • In the budget versions of the doors it is PVC film or laminate, in the more expensive models it is natural wood veneer or ecointerface. Of course, natural coverage is always more environmentally friendly and beautiful, but it costs more. Not everybody knows what an ecoshpon is, as it is a relatively new material developed in Japan.
Doors with eco-coating in the interior
  • Eco-shears are made in a composite way, based on wood fibers bound by polypropylene. This coating imitates the texture of wood so precisely that it is quite difficult to visually distinguish them. The main advantage of the ekoshpon is that it is stronger in strength than many types of wood - and even more so, its derivatives.
  • The polypropylene film is incredibly pleasant to the touch, and has a distinctive mother-of-pearl shade, thanks to which the light plays on it very nicely. Strictly speaking, this is the main feature of this material. Full visual identity with the tree is that the wood fibers of the eco-strip are not painted superficially, but are tinted throughout the mass.

Therefore, this sheet coating has a specified color throughout the thickness and area, and never changes it even under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. It is resistant to mechanical stress, is not afraid of moisture and everything that may be associated with it. Accordingly, the surface of such a door does not absorb dirt, and can be cleaned with the help of any detergents, including abrasive ones.
