Do-it-yourself door upholstery: how to do it

The process of door upholstery is not particularly difficult. Doing the door with your own hands can be done even by a non-professional. Surely, many had to carry out this operation more than once. Upholstery preparation procedure

The upholstery of the wooden entrance door is preceded by preparatory work:

• measure the door;
• cut a piece of upholstery from a piece of leatherette for upholstery and on both sides and small pieces to cover the edges;
• remove the canvas and remove the old coating;
• prepare the surface of the canvas - put the door on a flat surface, remove from it the remnants of metal fittings

Tip! You can not sheathe the door without using the liner. As it is possible to take cotton wool or foam rubber. Calculating the consumption of material, do not forget about the rollers, which also require material.

Upholstery procedure

So:

1. The upholstery of an entrance wooden door begins with fixing the rollers for the purpose of warming. The required size of the strip is nailed on one side. Then we insert the prepared filler and hammer in the strip completely.
2. We put a layer of cotton wool or foam rubber on the door leaf. Carefully distribute the first layer, the second layer is the dermatin sheet itself.
3. We make lateral allowances of 15 cm. In the place where the doors are hung on the hinges (see Types of door hinges: let's consider in detail), we make the allowance a little more.
4. Covering start from the castle. Making fasteners nails material. Step - 10 cm.
5. We carry out the fastening of the cloth around the entire door perimeter. In places where there are hinges, fasten leatherette to the box.
6. We return to the place fittings.
7. We hang the door on the hinges.

Replacing the front door upholstery or the upholstery of a new door, as a rule, is carried out using materials such as leatherette (see Door insulation with dermantine: rules for doing work) and leather. Insulation is most often wool or foam.

Door upholstery kit:

• plywood;
• strip of upholstery (width - 10 cm; the length of the door)
• epoxy adhesive;
• scissors;
• stapler;
• vatin;
• two centimeter thick foam and 10 cm thick than the door leaf.

Preparation process and upholstery

So:

1. Upholstery metal entrance door begins with the removal from the door of all accessories. We find a suitable place for laying doors horizontally.
2. We take pre-purchased pieces of plywood to the size of the door. We glue them to the door using epoxy glue.
3. We are waiting for the day setting glue.
4. Close the gap between the blade and the cant roller.
5. Making the workpiece for the roller. To this end, we cut a strip of upholstery (width - 10 cm; the length of the door). We fold it in half, fasten it to the door with nails and a hammer. Fasteners are desired in increments of up to 15 cm. The upholstery of the entrance doors can also be made with a stapler. If the upholstery bristles, trim it with scissors at the door hinges.
6. We put foam rubber, and on top of it wadding with two layers. We fix the batting.
7. Cut out the upholstery with a margin of three cm on each side relative to the door.
8. Fasten upholstery first thing on the top, and then the bottom. To nail the material, at the same time, it is necessary from the center.
9. Attach the upholstery material with a strong stretch. As soon as we grab the material from below and above, we can detect the crease. If this did not happen, it means that the stretch of the material was carried out incorrectly. You need to repeat the laying material for upholstery again.
10. Fasten upholstery need furniture nails.
11. For the sake of time, we fill the roller with a batting, we twist the remains of the batting into a tube and impose it around the perimeter of the canvas. At the same time, the batting tube is wrapped in the workpiece under the roller. Fasten nails to the door resulting edge of the workpiece.
