Do-it-yourself door entry: available to everyone

The initial operation, from which it is necessary to begin repairs at the most primary stages of it, is to install the entrance doors with your own hands. Everyone who needs to install an entrance door has two ways out of this situation:

1. The easiest way is to contact the same company in which you bought the door and order its installation. This method is not very suitable for us, because it promises additional costs, since the installation work on the installation of the entrance door is not cheap.
2. The second, more complicated, but absolutely free way, which is ideal for us, is to install entrance doors with your own hands.

Tip! Before you install the entrance door with your own hands, you must thoroughly prepare for this procedure. If you treat this process carelessly, the installed door will not last very long. Moreover, there are possible malfunctions of the door, which will restrict free access to the room. Therefore, in order to avoid unpleasant excesses, follow our instructions.

Getting rid of the old door

The main preparatory stage when installing do-it-yourself entrance doors is the removal of the old door. Dismantle the old door.

The dismantling of a replaceable front door can be divided into the following stages:

• The first thing you need to do is to separate the old front door from the door frame. If the old door was fastened using collapsible hinges, then you should open the door clearly 90 degrees. After that, start a regular crowbar to lift the old door up, do it until your old door jumps off the hinges. In the event that your old door is fastened on one-piece hinges (see Types of door hinges: consider in detail), simply unscrew it with a conventional screwdriver.
• Next, start dismantling the door frame itself. In order to dismantle the box, pull out all the nails and anchors from it. Then cut in the middle of the timber side racks of the door frame. The sawn racks are dismantled by a regular crowbar.
• Once you have completed the above steps, you will not be difficult to get rid of the top and bottom of the door. It will be much harder for people whose door frame is made of metal. Perhaps in order to dismantle such a box, you will have to cut it out using a grinder.

After you dismantle the old front door, get rid of falling plaster and pieces of mortar. This can be done with a conventional hammer. Do not forget to carefully remove the old nails and remove the remnants of the old sound and heat insulation (see How to warm the front door so that the house is cozy and warm).

Door installation

So, proceed to the immediate installation of the entrance door. At the moment, there are several different ways to install the doors with your own hands. Each of them is used depending on the level at which our door is mounted, relative to the doorway.

Consider the most common and affordable installation methods:

1. The easiest, most affordable, and popular way of attaching an entrance door is to mount it on so-called mounting plates.. These plates are installed in a special way on the edge of the opening with its inner side. As a result, the outer part of the door to be mounted is flush with your wall. Hammer in special steel rods (as an option, parts of reinforcement or suitable anchor bolts can be used) into the holes in the mounting plates. These rods serve as a fixture for the door frame in relation to the wall. After this, the rods should be welded or riveted.
2. Doors with your own hands can be installed in another way.  The second way with the help of which we will carry out the fastening of the entrance door is used only if you plan to “drown” the door in the doorway.

Tip! Using this option of fixing the box, you need to provide and leave a special technological gap. It is left between the door frame and the wall. The width of the gap should be 10-20 millimeters.

The door frame must be fixed to the wall using anchor bolts that need to be inserted into special holes. Very often, special mounting holes are made by the door manufacturer. But, it also happens when you have to make holes with your own hands. To give the bolts the correct aesthetic appearance, after installation, they are covered with plastic plugs.

This method is suitable only in the case, if the thickness of your walls was more than 15 centimeters. Otherwise, it is recommended to refuse from this method of installation of the entrance door. This is due to the fact that in the case of hacking, the attackers elementary pull the door out of a thin wall!

In that case, if the necessary holes are missing, drill them yourself and drive steel bars into them. After welding these rods to the inner wall of your profile.

Tip! Using this option of mounting the door frame, you need to provide and leave a special technological gap. It is left between the door frame and the wall. The width of the gap should be 5-15 millimeters.

Before directly installing the door, you need to lock the door in the doorway. To fix it, use wooden wedges. Use these wedges to fix the door frame.

Let's start leveling the door

It is divided into the following stages:

• check the vertical stand;
• drill a hole punch in the wall through special mounting eyes, small holesWhose diameter should be 15 millimeters and a depth of 100-120 millimeters;
• drive holes into the holes and fasten the anchor bolts;
• again check the vertical standusing the building level;

Now you can begin to hang the door. To do this, lubricate the pre loops. Door entrance with his hands almost installed.

After all the procedures described above, install door accessories (see. Accessories for entrance doors - useful information). Now try to level the side stand so that the gap between the stand and the door does not exceed 2-4 millimeters over the entire height of the stand. After that, secure the rack and repeat the operation with the second rack. If everything is done correctly, you can start brewing the rods or tightening them.

Now use mounting foam to close the gap between the door frame and the wall. In order not to stain the canvas and the box, glue them over with a molar adhesive tape. Usually, there is enough one cylinder with mounting foam for processing the door, but you can also be safe.

In about a day, the foam will dry completely. Carefully cut the foam off with a knife. After that, treat the space between the door and the door frame with ordinary plaster or other suitable material. The installation of the entrance door is over.

Congratulations, you now know how to install the front door. Most importantly, remember that when installing the front door, care must be taken and care must be taken.
