Doors

The front door, even if it is made of very high quality materials, suffers from the effects of precipitation and sunlight, losing an attractive look. Protect it from this can usual shed over the entrance door, which you can do with your own hands.

The entrance group is the face of any home, so you need to take care of its beautiful design. But you should not forget that the entrance should not only be beautiful, but also convenient.

When planning to make a visor above the door, think how big it should be so that oblique raindrops do not fall on the door and the platform in front of it, and the door can open wide without touching the canopy. For this, the dimensions of the shed in the plan must be greater than the width of the door by at least 40 cm on all sides (see Dimensions of entrance doors).

What to make a canopy

Today the choice of building materials is so huge that it is sometimes difficult to decide what to make a shed from. Focus on the appearance of the house itself: it is best to cover the shed with the same material that covers the roof of the house, especially if it is under the slope, and not from the gable side.

If the porch of the house is decorated with wooden railing (Registration of the front door), then the canopy frame is best made of wood to support the general style of the entrance group. The same applies to other materials.

For a solid brick house and a carport over the porch of the front door should be to it to become: large and massive. This can be achieved by laying out columns from the same brick as a support for a canopy.

In short, there are many options, and choosing the most suitable of them is your task. And we will show you how to realize your idea.

What you will cover canopy - not so important. The main thing - to make a strong and reliable frame.

Metal frame for canopy

Determine the dimensions of the future design and prepare materials: metal pipe, metal screws, primer and paint for metal. From the tools you need a welding machine, drill, Bulgarian, puncher and screwdriver.

Making the frame of straight parts is not difficult, so we will tell you how to make an arched canopy for which the pipes need to be bent.

So:

  1. Cut the pipe to the width of the canopybut with a large margin of bending. Put it on a flat surface, and with the help of a grinder, every 30-40 cm, make counter-cuts, as shown in the figure, along the entire length of the pipe.

  1. Bend the pipe, making the slots wider if necessary.. Having achieved the desired radius, attach the slot joints by welding.
  2. In the same way bend the second pipe, putting it to the first and achieving complete coincidence.
  3. Cut jumpers of the desired length and connect them with the resulting workpieces by welding.
  4. If the canopy is large enough, you will need to weld stops to it.  from outside corners to the wall.
  5. After finishing welding, grind and smooth all the joints with the grinder, ground metal and paint in the desired color.
  6. Attach the finished frame to the outer wall of the house with long anchors. For them, either holes are drilled in the pipe adjacent to the wall, or the mounting plates with holes for fasteners are welded to it in advance.
  7. The last stage - mounting roofing material. The lightest of them, both in weight and in the method of installation, is cellular polycarbonate. But its thickness must be at least 10 mm.

Wooden frame for canopy

If for the manufacture of a metal frame you need sophisticated tools and experience with them, then a canopy over the porch can be made from wood with literally everyone. First, let's figure out how to make a small visor that does not require the installation of stops on the ground. Look at the picture: this is how the construction will look from the side.

So:

  1. Set aside a horizontal line above the doorDrill a few holes and using anchors to fasten a wooden bar along it, the length of which is equal to the width of the future shed.
  2. In the same way, fasten two vertical bars under the top beam. (detail A in the figure).
  3. Cut off at the right angle the ends of the following beams (B and C), fasten themas shown in the figure, on both sides of the upper horizontal beam. Beams C serve as support for the supporting beams B, on which the roof of the shed will lie. Overhang
  4. If the area of the visor is large enough, lay on the beams. In the crate, and only then fix the selected roofing material.

In the case when the canopy over the entrance is planned to be large, the construction described above will not withstand it. For it is necessary to put the supporting pillars.

Ready canopy with sheathed supports

So:

  • In the places of installation racks, the number of which is calculated depending on the weight and size of the structure, dig holes.
  • Dip the lower ends of the racks in the used engine oil, wrap the roofing felt and install it vertically in a plumb line. Fill the pits with cement mortar and let it harden.
  • While the solution hardens, fasten the same supports to the walls of the house opposite the racks so that their upper ends are higher than the upper ends of the outer racks.
  • Tie the outer racks together at the top.
  • Put the beams on the upper ends of the internal and external supports, drill holes through them, penetrating the racks, and fasten them with long screws.

Note! The length of the beams must be greater than the distance between the supports in order to form an overhang.

  • It remains to put the crate on the beams, nail it, and lay the roof.

If desired, perimeter racks can be tied together at the bottom and at a level of 80-100 cm from the ground level and sheathe the resulting frame with clapboard or picket fence. Get a beautiful outdoor terrace.
