How to paint the ceiling with water-based paint
Probably, there is no person who has not painted anything at least once in his life. However, when painting, for example, the ceiling needs certain skills and abilities. Before you paint the ceiling with water-based paint, we recommend that you read this article.
Required materials and tools

It goes without saying that before working on painting the ceiling it is necessary to purchase paint of the desired color and tone, as well as tools. But in order to choose the right paint and buy exactly the tools you need, you need to determine the ceiling area and assess the current condition of its surface.

If the ceiling is not new, recently made of plasterboard, and already held out for some time, you need to understand whether to subject it to repair work or leveling. From the assessment of the condition of the ceiling will depend on the complexity of the preparatory work before applying water-based paint.
The market offers paint of different types. It can be silicate or acrylic, latex or silicone. So, how to choose the right emulsion paint for the ceiling? The choice of funds should be carried out primarily focusing not on the type of paint and its composition, although this is also important, but on the indicator of concealment.

To determine this value, it is necessary to study the container in which the coloring matter is located. It always indicates what surface area can be covered with 1 liter of paint or how many meters? enough one can. It is necessary to choose dye with a large covering index.
Note! If there is a need to paint the surface of the ceiling with water-based paint in rooms where the air humidity is always high, for example, in a kitchen or bathroom, then the appropriate coloring fluid should be chosen. The composition of such paint includes ingredients that do not allow the ceiling to moldy. In addition, the surface after painting can be washed with a wet cloth. For other rooms, you can use any tool.
If you buy several cans of paint, you need to examine whether they belong to the same production batch. Paint the same manufacturer, but from different batches may differ shade.
If the ceiling is in such a condition that it will be necessary to repair it, you will need to buy the necessary amount of putty and primer. In addition, to facilitate the task of removing the old paint, you will need a washing solution.
To paint the ceiling with water-based paint will need such tools:
- a roller with a pile of medium size approximately 0.2 m wide. A tool with a velor and foam rubber working surface is not suitable;
- a brush with a thin work surface, which will be needed for working in corners and places difficult to reach for the roller. Its width should be about 50 mm;
- paint tray;
- fine-grained emery skin;
- putty knife.
For convenience, instead of bulky ladders, it is better to buy a telescopic handle on which you can put a roller.
Preparatory work

If the ceiling is covered with a layer of old paint, you should get rid of it, and not put a layer on top.
- To remove the old paint you need to apply detergent on an alkaline basis and wait for a while until the old paint begins to swell. Then the softened layer is easily removed with a spatula. Then the ceiling is washed and left to dry.
- If, after removing the old coating, errors are seen, they need to be corrected - the gaps need to be widened and deepened, after which the starting putty should be walked. After its hardening, the ceiling should be treated with emery cloth, and the resulting dust removed with a vacuum cleaner.
- The next step is to primer the ceiling. It is best to use a deep penetration primer. After the ceiling is dry, water-based paint can be applied to the surface.

These rules are effective for a ceiling of normal quality. If there are significant differences between the floor slabs, the surface is uneven, there are knobs and potholes, the repair will require more significant efforts - leveling plaster, how to do it correctly, read in this article.
Painting technology

- After uncorking the can, water is added to the paint in the ratio of 1/10. Usually this recommendation is spelled out in the instructions for use. The paint must acquire the necessary thickness. If the manual does not say anything about dilution, the paint should be thoroughly mixed.
- At first, a brush is used for painting, which is used in corners and other places difficult to reach for the roller. In order not to hook the walls with this tool, you need to use a brush to walk along the walls along the perimeter of the ceiling with a strip of about 5 cm.
- Specially purchased bath should be filled with a small amount of paint.
- In the tray with paint you need to lower the roller, hold them back and forth on the ribbed surface. This will allow to leave on the instrument's fur coat exactly as much paint as it can hold. The composition is evenly distributed over the entire area of the roller. As a result, it will be possible to paint the ceiling without streaks.
- The paint is applied to the ceiling from the window in the transverse direction with respect to the penetrating light. Painting gradually goes to the opposite side of the room. To avoid strips on the surface, it is better to apply paint with a roller W. In this case, excess paint is removed from the surface.

- After the first coat of paint is applied second in the perpendicular direction. This is done after the first layer of paint dries.
- If the paint is dry, and the hillocks are visible on the ceiling, they need to be removed with fine-grained emery cloth.
Spray gun
To facilitate the work of painting the ceiling, you can use the spray gun. Painting the ceiling with water-based paint with an airbrush helps to achieve the best result. The surface after the application of such a tool looks perfect, there are no streaks and streaks.
A few recommendations when using the spray gun:
- the instrument must be kept in such a position that the jet is directed perpendicular to the ceiling surface at a distance of up to 0.7 m;
- spray paint need circles without stopping at one place;
- Additional painting is carried out after drying the previous layer.
