Grinding the ceiling after putty
Grinding the ceiling after filling is the final stage of the whole complex of works related to its final finishing. The need for polishing is due to the fact that the surface of the ceiling after treatment with a putty used as a leveling compound does not always meet the specified requirements and needs additional processing.
Thanks to sanding, any ceilings are able to get the perfect look, characteristic of the final stage of their processing. But you should always remember that the grinding process itself is quite laborious and will require you to have certain skills in this type of work.
Grinding work features
We especially note the fact that any grinding work is accompanied by the formation of dust (as they say, a high level of dustiness), which adversely affects the performer’s health. That is why, before sanding the ceiling yourself, make sure that you have all the necessary protective equipment used in such situations to protect your eyes and respiratory tract.

The list of basic protective equipment used in grinding operations should include the following items:
- the simplest respirator (gauze bandage);
- special safety glasses;
- tightly fastened shoes;
- headdress;
- work gloves.
The ideal option is to use tightly fastened suit, designed specifically for work in conditions of high dustiness.
Generally speaking, ceiling grinding operations should be categorized as specific finishing works, which require a special approach.
Note! In advance, take care that not only furniture but also other items that may be affected by dust (decorative elements, for example) are taken out of the room.
Tool selection
Ceiling leveling works can be implemented today in one of two ways: by hand grinding or by using a special grinding machine for this purpose.

Each of the options presented above has certain advantages and disadvantages. Of course, when grinding manually, you can achieve a very high quality of the prepared surface. On the other hand, such a process will require you a lot of time and labor costs; and the quality of grinding will largely depend on the professional abilities of the performer.
In the case of using a special grinding mechanism, you can pay more attention to the quality of grinding, without overworking and not spending too much time on work.
Despite the presence in the sale of a large number of models of specialized grinding devices, the method of manual grinding is still considered relevant and is used by many experts. The reason for such confidence in this method of finishing ceilings is its relative simplicity and accessibility for performers who do not have “solid” skills to work in this class.

To perform the finishing work manually, you should use a special type of grinding tool, called "grater". Commercially available modern graters are equipped with convenient notches for the fingers, which greatly facilitate the handling of them in the process. The procedure for grinding the ceiling with their hands using such a float is familiar to most users and does not require special consideration.
For processing large areas of ceiling surfaces, it would be more sensible to use special grinding machines, which are presented in a large assortment on the domestic market. Each of these models has its own unique characteristics and is used in certain circumstances. But all these mechanisms (without exception) are similar in one thing - they significantly facilitate grinding operations and allow you to prepare the ceiling without much time and effort.
Grinding procedure

Grinding the ceiling after plastering should be started only after the layer of previously applied leveling material dries out completely. Taking into account its features, as well as the conditions in which the work is carried out (air temperature in the room and humidity), it can take from one to several days to completely dry the putty.
Note! To reduce drying time, it is recommended to keep windows and doors in the room open.
The moment of surface readiness for grinding is usually determined by the color of the primer. In the event that the dark spots on it have disappeared, and she herself has acquired an even matte shade - you can proceed to the main work.

The order of their conduct (using a grinding machine) is as follows:
- First of all, a tool with a sandpaper of the required grit is installed on the tool (for the first “pass” a “large” skin is used, and at the final stage of polishing it changes to fine-grained).
- After that, you can proceed to the grinding itself, which consists in a uniform and smooth movement of the rotating nozzle along the treatment surface (preferably, along a circular path).
- The procedure should be continued until the surface has a sufficiently smooth and smooth appearance.
Before carrying out grinding operations, you should familiarize yourself with the advice of professionals regarding some of the details of work organization:
- First of all, you should take care that the area where the grinding procedures are carried out is well lit.
- The level of illumination should allow to distinguish all the irregularities present on the treated surface.
- You can start the self-polishing work on the ceiling only after you completely protect yourself from dust. To do this, use all available personal protective equipment.
