Wooden floor on concrete base: preparation. laying on glue,

To date, there are many floor coverings, however, the proven tree for centuries has not lost its relevance, and still enjoys great popularity. As a result, many homeowners decide to install wooden boards on top of a concrete screed. This procedure is not too complicated, but requires some knowledge, therefore, below we will consider in detail how the installation of a wooden floor over concrete.

Installation of wooden boards

General information

Often, before performing repairs, people think about which floors are better - wood or concrete?

At first glance, concrete floors may seem more practical for the following reasons:

  • They do not rot, resulting in more durable;
  • Over time, they do not begin to creak, unlike wooden floors;
  • Have good strength.
  • Possess moisture resistance and so forth.

However, it is no secret that the concrete floor is colder than wooden and, of course, less comfortable. As for the shortcomings of the boardwalk, such as the tendency to rotting or loosening and squeaking, then with the observance of modern installation technologies, they are no longer a problem.

Therefore, deciding whether to lay a floor - concrete or wooden, you should consider the conditions of its operation. For example, in the bathroom or in the kitchen it is more expedient to use a concrete screed, covered, for example, with tiles. But in the hall or bedroom, where in the first place comfort and coziness, it is better to cover the floor with wood.

The technology of laying wooden floors on concrete

Now take a closer look at how to lay a wooden floor on a concrete base.

Immediately it should be said that there are several installation technologies:

  • Gluing boards to concrete;
  • Laying on the logs;
  • Laying on plywood;

To select the appropriate technology, you should familiarize yourself with each one, so that we can do further.

Leveling concrete with self-leveling compound

Foundation preparation

Before you lay the wooden floor on concrete, you need to prepare the base, regardless of what installation technology will be used. Preparation consists of drying the screed if the floor has been recently filled and leveling. If the surface of the base has bumps, they can be removed by grinding, if there are “pits”, then such a flaw is easiest to correct with a self-leveling mixture.

Note! Proceed to the installation work is possible only if the moisture content of the screed does not exceed 3 percent.

At this stage, holes in the concrete should also be made to conduct communications, for example, sewer or water pipes, cables, etc. The most effective way is diamond drilling of holes in concrete.

If the area of the room is large, then deformation seams should be made in the freshly molded screed. For this purpose, reinforced concrete is cut with diamond circles. The final stage of preparation of the base is surface coating with a primer.

Impregnation will serve as a waterproofing, as well as prevent the occurrence of mold and mildew under a wooden floor. As the primer is usually used polyurethane one-component primer mixture. After the primer has dried, you can start the installation of the floor with your own hands.

Gluing boards to the concrete floor

Laying on glue

This technology consists of mounting boards directly on a concrete base. Recently, it is the most common way of laying wooden boards on the screed.

True, the installation can be started only if the base complies with SNiP 3.04.01-87. If the concrete is loose or contains cracks, it is necessary to use special reinforcing primers or cover it with a separating substrate, for example - Multimoll Vlies.

If laying of a wide massive board is supposed, then modified elastic one-component polyurethane glue is applied to gluing of boards. Installation of a narrow solid or engineering board is performed using a two-component polyurethane adhesive.

Polyurethane adhesive

The construction of a wooden floor for concrete in this case is as follows:

  • First of all, you need to measure the room and cut the boards of the required length.
  • Then, starting from the wall opposite to the entrance, glue is applied to the surface of the base and leveled with a notched trowel.. The thickness of the layer should not exceed 3 mm.
  • Then the board is laid on the surface covered with glue and pressed over the whole area.. In this way, 2-3 rows of boards are mounted. When laying the boards, they must be joined tightly in the longitudinal and transverse direction; for this purpose, tensioning belts or wedges can be used.
  • After glue polymerization, the rest of the boards are laid.. In this case, the boards of the last row must be cut to the width.

Note! A gap of at least 15 mm must be left between the walls and the floor.

Floor installation on logs

This technology involves the installation of boards to wooden logs (rectangular bars). It can be used for boards with a thickness of 20 mm. Thinner boards should be mounted only on plywood.

Installation instructions are as follows:

  • Lags are attached to the concrete floor with dowels and screws. At the same time their caps should be recessed a few millimeters below the surface. The axial distance between the lags should be 25-30 cm.

I must say that there is another way of fixing the lag - on adhesive and bitumen-containing mastics. This technology is justified in the event that when drilling concrete there is a chance to damage the communication.

  • After mounting the lag, you must perform their leveling. Places that protrude above the level must be removed with a plane. As a result, the deviation from the level should be no more than 2 mm by two meters.
The scheme of installation of a wooden floor on logs
  • Next along the walls you need to lay soft fiberboard, which will serve as a sound insulation strip between the floor and the wall.
  • The space between the lags is desirable to fill with insulating material, for example, expanded clay or mineral mats.
  • After that, the installation of boards, which are attached to the logs with screws. Of course, for these purposes it is possible to use nails, however, over time, such fastening begins to loosen, as a result of which, when moving along the floor, a characteristic creak appears.

This technology is good because it allows for communication under the floor, as well as the use of insulation. However, the cost of construction increases, because in addition to boards, it is necessary to purchase more parallel bars.

Plywood laying

The wooden floor on a concrete base can be laid using waterproof plywood with a thickness of 12-18 mm.

In this case, the procedure is as follows:

  • Standard sheets of plywood need to cut into squares measuring 40x40 cm or 80x80 cm.
  • The resulting fragments are stacked diagonally towards the future coating. Moreover, the gap between them should be about 4 mm. Plywood is first glued, and then shot down with dowels.

Between the edges of the plywood and the walls it is necessary to leave a distance of about 10 mm. Sheets are stacked with a shift on the principle of brick luggage, while the heads of the screws must be drowned by 3-4 mm.

  • Before laying the plywood on the concrete floor, it is coarse ground.
  • The leveled base should be dust free.
  • Then the boards are attached to the plywood using self-tapping screws.

Here are all the highlights of mounting a wooden floor over the screed. It must be said that in some cases it is necessary to perform the operation on the contrary, i.e. pour the concrete over the wooden floor. Most often, in this case, the concrete screed is carried out on wooden lags.

Sanding plywood

To do this, metal corners are fastened to the side walls of the log, on which the reinforcing mesh is laid, while the space between the lags is covered with expanded clay. After that, pour the concrete mix, which should be above the level of the lag.

Such technology is used in old apartments, in which wooden floors are the overlap between the floors.
