Building

Before undertaking the construction of a wooden country house, you need to familiarize yourself with all the points that you will expect. This is required not only in order to reduce costs (at the design stage), but, first of all, it helps to avoid pitfalls, protecting your structure from unnecessary repairs.

We will talk about the design in this article, briefly tell you about the main points of each construction stage.

The country house can be made on its own, for this you need only a competent project and high-quality building material

The first stage is preparatory

The design and construction of houses from glued timber should be started with the calculations of materials that will be required for the work and with the choice of the very building elements. To make it easier to navigate, our instructions will be divided into several parts, we begin with the theory-design of the future house.

Calculation of the amount of building materials

First you need to decide on the size of the building, which is why it is better to prepare a drawing on paper (those who have a good computer skills can even make a 3D model of their home).

Note! Do not forget that the standard timber is 6 meters long, so for longer walls you will need to dock the timber material along the length. This significantly increases the cost of acquiring wood.

  • First of all, the project outlines the outer contours of the building - all load-bearing walls, which will be made of more durable materials (several layers).
  • After that it is required to specify all internal partitions so that the final square of all rooms is outlined.
  • It is equally important to determine the height of the building before its construction, because the end result affects the foundation - what it will be.
  • On the project are indicated and building materials that must be used in the work. Here is a list of necessary elements: logs for the floor and ceiling, roof, windows and doors, rafters, lathing, insulation for timber and fasteners.
Pay attention to the photo - window openings are not through, they have a connecting bar, which is necessary for proper shrinkage of the house

Note! We should not forget about the special protective means by which the wood is processed, their price depends on the quality and brand of the manufacturer of antiseptic.

Selection of materials

  • Apart from the fact that construction projects of a timber house must be carried out with strict observance of all standards in terms of heat and sound insulation, so also the wood should be selected suitable. In general, in the construction market you can find timber of various sections, for example, 120x120 mm or 200x200 mm. At the same time, the products are distinguished not only by dimensions, but also by storage technology and, accordingly, durability.
  • The 150x150 mm section is considered to be the most acceptable for a single-story building, although, of course, the budget of your project will be the decisive factor. If it allows you, you can easily purchase a bar and a larger section, and to save, it is better to purchase products of natural moisture.
  • As for the time that will be spent on construction, then you decide - either you buy more expensive products (profiled timber with a thorn-groove lock), or you save money, but you spend time.

Note! An important feature of the profiled products - if the walls are lined with the weather conditions in your area, then you do not need additional costs for insulation. Plus, such a timber gives minimal shrinkage.

  • Glued laminated timber is the most expensive, therefore it is not affordable for many private developers, but it has even more practical properties than profiled ones. Such a house does not shrink, that is, you do not need to wait a year before settling, you can begin to prepare the dwelling immediately after construction.

The second stage - mounting the base

Construction and projects of houses from a bar begin with the foundation - with the calculation of the most optimal foundation for the future structure.

For this you need:

  • Conduct soil analysis to determine the level of freezing, the presence of groundwater and soil density.
  • The results will help find the answer to the question, what kind of foundation is best suited. If the ground is free-flowing, then it is better to use a columnar or pile foundation; a shallow solid monolithic armature framework is suitable for dense soil.
A waterproofing material is originally laid on any type of foundation.
  • Before you start pouring the cement mortar into the prepared trench for the foundation, it is required to fill the sand pad (with the admixture of rubble) to the bottom. The thickness of the pillow about 15 cm, be sure to ram.
  • Since the house is wooden, the base should be raised above the ground so that the tree does not become damp in the first year, therefore erecting the formwork - make it 30-40 cm higher than the ground level.
Wall bars are laid on the ready foundation, after which floor logs are mounted

The third stage - the construction of walls and roofs

After the foundation has been erected, you can start building walls:

  • The erection of the bearing walls occurs in stages, row by row, and all the crowns must be pulled together with each other in the bar. As nails, nails of 200 mm are usually used, which are embedded in a timber at 7-10 cm, depending on the section.
  • Thermal insulation material is attached to the timber only after the house shrinks, the same applies to the finish.
  • For the roof should be used not only waterproof material, but also a windproof membrane that prevents the ingress of cold air into the room.
  • It is better to mount boards that have been cut to the angle with metal corners and screws.
Self-tapping screws and corners in this case are more practical and reliable.

Conclusion

Do not forget that all individual projects, we build a house from a bar with our own hands, have one similar feature - a tree will serve you for a long time only when it is processed by special means. Any wooden house, even if it was built by professionals, will not last even a few years if all the rules for the use of natural material are not followed.
