How to install linoleum on a concrete floor: surface
Such a canvas is a very popular material in our time. This is due to its many merits. In this article we will tell how to lay linoleum on a concrete floor.

Choosing a material
To lay linoleum on a concrete floor brought you only positive emotions, you should choose the appropriate option. To perform this task, you must have the correct information.
First of all, you should compare the type of material with its scope.
If you are going to implement the linoleum flooring on a concrete floor, then you should know that it is of three types:
- Domestic. It is suitable only for use at home, because it does not have adequate resistance.
- Commercial. It has the most impressive indicators, so its use in commercial premises of any type (up to dance floors) is acceptable. Of course, the price of such pleasure will be very high.
- Semi-commercial - is a kind of "golden mean".

In order to get the right amount of material, you should calculate the area of the room. In most cases, you need to multiply the length by the width (if we are talking about placing a rectangular shape). However, in situations where the room has a complex geometric shape, it is necessary to divide it into more simple shapes.
Tip: if you get a monochromatic sample, then add 10% for trimming, if with a pattern, then 15-18%.
Initial surface preparation
Before laying the linoleum on concrete, you should prepare the base. This procedure will not worry about the final result. Remember that even the smallest irregularities significantly shorten the life of the material.
Before leveling the concrete floor under the linoleum, it is necessary to evaluate the degree of its curvature. If we deal with insignificant differences (up to 2 mm), then it will be quite enough to just putty all the cavities in the concrete.

If there are differences in height above 2 cm, then you will have to lay a leveling concrete screed for the floor.
We do it in the following sequence:
- We install beacons from a metal profile. However, they should be located at a distance less than the length of the applied profile. To fix these elements, we use diamond drilling of holes in concrete and fix them on the dowel, or sink in a small amount of mortar (in this case they can be easily removed later).
Tip: The length of the rule must be chosen based on the number of workers. So, for example, it will be extremely difficult for one person to work with a rule of more than a meter.
- Next you need using the level to achieve maximum flatness of the profile. When it is reached, it is time to start pouring the cement-sand mortar (1: 3 ratio) onto the floor between the beacons.
- Using the rule, you will need to align the poured solution with zigzag movements.. After that, you need to let it dry for several days and only then proceed to further manipulations.
On this basis, under the linoleum on the concrete floor is ready.

If the surface has a satisfactory condition (altitude drops less than 1.5 cm), then it will be sufficient to use the so-called “self-leveling floor”. This is a special polymer cement solution.
Using it is quite simple:
- We calculate the required amount of solution. This will help the instructions on the packaging.
- Prepare the mixture and pour it on the original surface.
- Then level it with a pinion.
It is also worth noting that such a composition can be poured on a conventional screed if, for some reason, it was not possible to achieve perfect evenness. If you are extremely unwilling to work with concrete, then there is an alternative solution - plywood on a concrete floor under linoleum. In this case, you do not have to mess around for a long time, but this material is not very durable.
Main scope of work
When the preparation of the concrete floor under the linoleum is completed, you can proceed directly to the main procedure. However, she will also need to perform some preparatory actions.
Preliminary manipulations
In order for the work to succeed, you must fulfill several conditions:

- The temperature in the room should be constant and not be below 15 degrees.
- Humidity should not be more than 65%.
- Перед укладкой необходимо дать полотну «отлежаться» в помещении. Так оно выровняется и приспособится к микроклимату.
Laying technology
Now you just have to lay linoleum, but how to do it? There are several ways that we will discuss next.
No blast
If we are talking about a small room (up to 15m2), in which there will be no serious load, then this method will do. You can simply spread the canvas on the floor. In this case, this technique is applicable only if we are talking about one piece for the whole room.
Double-sided tape
If you can’t cut one large canvas, and there is a need to dock the strips, then this option is the most relevant.
This operation is as follows:
- Apply adhesive tape to the original surface. In this case, the protective film is not necessary to remove.
- Then you want to spread the cloth on top and bend one part.
- Next, remove the protective film.
- Again, we stretch and smooth, moving from the center.

In the same way, you will need to glue the second half.
Mastic
Quite often, this material is used for bonding panels. Mastics are characterized by excellent moisture resistance and durability, which allowed them to become a very popular solution in this field.
Depending on the type of fabric used, the method of gluing will differ:
- For fabric samples, it is best to use synthetic mastic. They need to be applied to the original coating layer of the order of half a millimeter.
- For fabrics with insulating base can only use dispersion glue. The thickness of the layer should be about 0, 7 mm.
- If you are going to lay baseless linoleum on a concrete screed, it is better to use rubber mastic. Also suitable compositions based on resins. They should be applied in a thin layer (up to 0.4 mm).
Professional glue

Of course, you can make an adhesive with your own hands, which is more likely to do its job. However, it is better to trust the professionals and purchase a composition specially designed for this task.
There are two types: providing fixation of the canvas and full gluing.
The second type is divided into the following types:
- 1 – component.
- 2 – component.
- Solvent based.
- Water-dispersion. This variety is the most environmentally friendly.
- Based on polyurethane.
To apply the substance, you can use a notched trowel or roller. We recommend purchasing the glue along with the web so that the seller-consultant can choose the most suitable variety. Often, they themselves offer customers a glue.
