House cost from a bar - we count expenses on construction

Building

Many nowadays dream of a cozy country house, where you can relax on hot summer days. And the best material for such a construction is timber. This material is supported by the low cost of a timber house, as well as the environmental friendliness, durability and attractive appearance of such buildings.

Due to the fact that building materials today are not cheap, the desire of many home craftsmen to save on construction is justified. Therefore, in this article we will calculate the cost of a house from a bar, considering the prices of this material.

Calculate the cost of the log house

Log houses are considered traditional in Russia. The technologies of their construction originate in ancient times and have survived to this day almost unchanged. Bar-shaped walls have the same features as timbered walls, while the price of this material is much lower.

When planning to build a log house, you can go two ways:

  1. Order the work of a construction company. In this case, you have to pay not only for the material, but also for the cost of assembling a house from a bar. However, in this case, you get a ready-made building, fully prepared for the settlement. Such an option would be acceptable for those who do not want to burden themselves with construction work, with financial resources.

  1. To carry out all the work yourself. In this case, you only pay for the cost of the bar for the house, but the construction work falls entirely on your shoulders. Building a house is a serious matter, because when deciding on such a crucial step, you must be completely sure that you will cope.

Let's look at both options in more detail.

Cost when ordering in a construction company

If you decide to completely entrust the construction of the house to professionals, then first of all you should be aware of the list of services that the developer will provide you and for which, accordingly, a fee will be charged. Such works are usually divided into two groups: those that are included in the standard list of services and those that are not.

The construction of a log house by a professional company provides such services:

  1. The choice of material, as well as delivery of logs to the construction site. Usually bars go on building, ranging in size from 240 to 320 mm in cross section.
  2. Completion of the material, which includes the rounding of the logs by hand, as well as the treatment with antiseptic substances.
  3. Making the necessary elements, such as rafters, retaining pillars, subrafter beams and floor beams, as well as the formation of holes for the electrical cable.
  4. Installation of log walls on the finished foundation, hydro and thermal insulation with laying insulating material (tow, flax, jute, moss). The use of any construction equipment will be paid additionally.
In the photo - the initial stage of the installation of log walls.
  1. Installation of truss system and retaining pillars.
  2. Installation of window and door openings.

Given the above services, the approximate cost of a box log house will be:

  • When using conventional round timber (including assembly) - from 160 y. e. for 1m2.
  •  When using a profiled bar - from 180 at. e. per square meter area.
  • If the material is glued laminated timber, then the minimum cost will be in the range of 180-190 y. e. for 1 m2.

Works that are not included in the list of standard services, but for which you have to pay in the future:

  1. Filing of eaves of a roof, ceilings not edged board.
  2. Installation of subfloor and lag.
  3. Internal and external treatment of joints with sealants and linseed oil.
  4. Processing of internal walls (grinding for painting).
  5. Caulking flax that is held 1-2 years after the completion of construction work.

Given the whole range of services, the cost of the finished project ordered by the construction company will be:

  • For the bath, measuring 3 by 3 meters and with a height of 2.5 meters - from 5000 to 5500 y. e.
Bath from a bar.
  • For a small house, with the size of the walls of 4 to 6 meters and a ceiling height of 3 meters - 10-11 thousand in. e.

As you can see, such amounts will not be acceptable for every owner of the dacha. Therefore, many decide to build country houses with their own hands, and thus save considerable funds, since the cost of a log house in this case will be an order of magnitude lower.

Calculate the cost of the house in the self-erection

When choosing a material for self-construction, you should pay attention to both the type of building material and its grade. Next, we will take into account the cost of a timber measuring 200 by 200 mm, which is the best option for building houses.

Consider the parameters on which the cost of houses from a timber depends:

  1. View. Today there are 3 types of timber:
  • Normal building. The cheapest of these building materials, but rather expensive to maintain, because it needs a caulking iron, goes to the construction site undried and undergoes only rough grinding, because it must be refined manually. The cost of such material will cost you 160-180 y. e. per cubic meter.
Normal construction timber.

Tip! Since such a timber is delivered to the construction site in undried form, it dries directly within the walls. So that it does not lead, you should purchase only from trusted suppliers.

  • Profiled timber. It has a special profiled structure, thanks to which the installation process is greatly facilitated. In particular, such walls do not need a caulking iron, and construction materials arrive at the construction site already polished and dried.

Dry (with a humidity of 18-20%) timber is almost twice as expensive as usual. Thus, the cost of profiled building material is 300-350 y. e. per cubic meter.

  • Glued laminated timber. It is considered the most expensive because it meets the highest requirements. It is made by gluing several lamellae, but this does not prevent such a bar from having all the advantages of natural wood. At the same time shrinkage is not peculiar to it.

Typically, this material is a bit more expensive than profiled, some companies offer both building materials at the same price.

Glued material with profiled structure.
  1. Grade. Today, timber can be of four grades, from 0 to 3. And the cost of a wooden house made of timber depends on the grade. Zero grade is the most expensive, but most often there are materials of the 1st and 2nd grades. They are the best options for construction.

Calculate the amount of material

Let's calculate how much timber is needed to build a box at home.

The instruction for calculating external walls involves several steps:

  1. We find the area of the walls, multiplying the length by the height. The squares of the outer walls are cumulative. For example: 4 x 3 x 2 + 6 x 3 x 2 (for a home, measuring 4 by 6 meters with a wall height of 3 meters). We get 60 m2.

Tip! Having a house plan will greatly simplify calculations, saving you from measuring the walls.

  1. For accuracy of calculations, it is necessary to subtract from the area of the walls the area of technical openings, that is, the area of doors and windows. For example, the door area is 1.8 m2, and two windows are 1.28 m2. The total area of those. holes - 3.08 m2. Subtract: 60 - 3.8 = 56.2 m2.
  2. In order to convert square meters to cubic, it is necessary to multiply the area of the walls by their width, thus finding the volume. 56.2 x 0.2 = 11.24 m3 needed for the construction of the box at home.

Conclusion

In this article we reviewed the cost of assembling a house from a timber and the cost of the building material itself, if you decide to build the building yourself. We also gave an example of calculating the material at home, so that everyone can understand the calculation algorithm itself.
