Grid for concrete: the use of fiberglass, metal products
Concrete is a fairly durable material, but at the same time brittle, prone to cracking. To eliminate this disadvantage, when it is cast, a reinforcing mesh is used. Next, we take a closer look at when this material is used and what types it is.

When to use mesh
Reinforcing mesh is used exclusively in two cases:
- If you need to achieve high strength concrete;
- If it is necessary to combine materials between which poor adhesion.
Now consider the most common cases in which you need to use a reinforcing mesh:
- Floor screed - in this case, reinforcement is never superfluous, as it helps to prevent cracking of the material, and also increases the strength characteristics of the floor. Especially metal mesh for the reinforcement of concrete is needed in cases where the screed is performed over the floor insulated with foam plastic. If it is not used, the concrete will crack in the first months of operation, no matter how high-quality and durable the solution.

- Plaster surfaces - when performing this operation, the reinforcement allows to improve the adhesion between the cement plaster and the base. As a rule, it is used in two cases - when a thick layer of mortar is applied, or a surface with poor adhesion is applied.
Most often, for these purposes a plastic mesh is used for the reinforcement of concrete or a metal chain-link. In particular, it is necessary when plastering polystyrene, painted walls, wooden surfaces or metal. I must say that in the case of plastering foam, the grid is also needed to prevent cracking of the surface.
- When laying concrete - in this case the geogrid for asphalt concrete performs two functions at once.:
- increases the tensile strength of asphalt;
- perceives the main part of the horizontal loads under tension and allows them to be evenly distributed over a larger area of the asphalt canvas.
Note! Reinforced concrete is called reinforced concrete. Such a material is very durable, as a result of which it is difficult to process, for example, even cutting reinforced concrete with diamond circles will take some time. Therefore, when pouring, it is immediately necessary to think through all the nuances so that later you don’t have to perform any additional work with the finished surface.

It is especially important to carry out armopoyas when building houses from porous, lightweight materials that are of insufficient strength, for example, masonry mesh is often used for expanded clay concrete blocks.
In addition to reinforcing, there is still a woven mesh for cutting off concrete. It is used when casting large areas of concrete as a permanent formwork. Due to the fact that its cells are very small, it is able to pass water and at the same time delay the solution.

Varieties and features
All existing types of grids can be divided into two types:
- Metal mesh for concreting;
- Fiberglass.
Now let's take a closer look at the features of each of its species.

Fiberglass
This type of reinforcing material has quite interesting properties, among which there is a high tensile and tear strength. In addition, the fiberglass cloth is practically not exposed to temperature extremes (find out also how concrete hardens).
Even an unqualified specialist will be able to install such a grid with his own hands - first a thin layer of plaster is applied to the surface, after which a sheet is pressed into the solution. After drying the composition, apply another layer of plaster to the surface.
It is used when plastering surfaces with a thin layer when it is necessary to improve the adhesion between materials. As a rule, it is used when finishing facades. Another feature of the glass is lower price than metal materials.
Metallic
Metal canvas on the application can be divided into three main types:
- For floor screed;
- For plaster;
- For armopoyas when building walls.
The difference between them lies in the cross section of the wire and the size of the cell. For plastering works, a grid with cells up to 30 millimeters and a wire section of up to 1.5 millimeters is used.
For the screed, of course, apply a more powerful canvas, with a cell of 100x100 and even more. The thickness of the wire can be from 2.5 millimeters. The choice depends on the loads - the higher they are, the more serious the reinforcement should be.

Also, all existing canvases can be divided into two types:
- Rolled;
- Sectional.
On this basis, it is also possible to distinguish the material for the screed and for the plaster. In the first case, sectional grids are used, and for plaster, as a rule, in rolls.
With regard to installation, the instructions may differ depending on the type of surface:
- The metal is point-welded to metal;
- Material can be attached to wood with a stapler with large staples or screws.
- If the surface is concrete or brick, then the canvas is fixed with dowels with washers.
- When reinforcing the screed, the reinforcement layer is not fixed at all. The only condition - the canvas should be located in the middle of the screed. Therefore, to ensure a certain distance from the floor, under it enclose pebbles or bars.

Tip! If, after pouring and setting the mortar, it was necessary to carry out a communication tie, for example, a sewer pipe, diamond drilling of holes in concrete should be used, since this method of processing is most effective.
Here, perhaps, and all the main points that you need to know about the grids, when working with concrete.
Conclusion
Therefore, to obtain a positive result from the use of the grid, it is necessary to choose it correctly in each individual case. From the video in this article you can learn more about this topic.
