Glued laminated windows: manufacturing techniques, equipment
Not so long ago, at the end of the 20th century, a small “revolution” took place in the construction market of Russia - window constructions made of glued timber appeared. Throughout their existence and to this day, they actively compete with PVC windows that are well known to us. However, the windows of the eurobar, unlike plastic, are environmentally friendly and more aesthetic. Therefore, our article will be devoted to them.

Window frames from timber - important aspects
What are the new generation lumber windows? What are their advantages over plastic “Euro-assembled”? And are there any "pitfalls"? We will try to answer these and other questions as fully as possible now.
Technology of production of timber for windows

Wood has always been, is and will be the most natural building material. And natural material, first of all, is environmentally friendly, does not emit harmful substances, creates a favorable microclimate in the room and harmonizes perfectly with other interior details. As for concrete log windows, for example, from larch, these are advanced wood products, which have much greater advantages than ordinary wood.
And what do you think is better: profiled timber or rounded log? First of all, you need to tell a little about how the timber itself is made. The raw materials for it are conifers of trees from the Siberian and northern plots, from which so-called lamellae are made to create a timber.
For information! In a laminated veneer lumber there are usually 3 lamellas. However, there are lumber products made of 5 lamellas.
Lamellae are obtained by radial, semi-radial or tangential cutting. Radial sawing is carried out through the core of the tree and is considered the best, as it allows to achieve more durable wood, with lower rates of swelling and shrinkage.

Before gluing, the slats are dried - the instruction prescribes that after this procedure they have a moisture content of 12%. Such a small percentage of humidity makes it possible to reduce the stress inside the material, which in turn eliminates shrinkage, twisting and bending of future products from the bar.
Then the lamellae are carefully sorted, rejected, and only then glued together under a pressure opposite to the direction of the fibers. Due to the different position of the fibers of the individual lamellae in the finished products almost no cracks are formed.
Note! As a rule, official manufacturers use special formulations for gluing lamellae, which are not only reliable, but also completely environmentally friendly. That is, they allow a bar to breathe, but this is the main advantage of a wooden window over PVC windows, for example.
If the customer wishes, the eurobar can be painted in any color. This is done with the help of a computerized paint and varnish installation, which guarantees a deep and uniform coloring of the bar-shaped parts of the window construction.
Double-glazed windows and accessories

Today for bar-shaped windows two types of double-glazed windows are used:
- Single chamber;
- Two-chamber, consisting of 2 or 3 glasses.
I must say, the glass unit is not just glass, installed one after another. The interglass space is filled with dried air, and aluminum profiles are mounted in the gaps, inside which moisture absorbing material is laid.

Also around the perimeter of the package, as a rule, are sealed with organic putty and butyl tape - they reduce the mechanical stress, as well as prevent the penetration of water vapor into the room. It turns out that the log window as a whole is a stable construction with excellent sound and thermal insulation properties.
For information! You can order from the manufacturer an even more reliable glass unit that is filled with argon or other inert gas, and its outer glass is replaced with energy-saving glass (I -glass, K -glass, etc.). In this case, the sound and thermal conductivity of the window will fall, but the price of the window will increase significantly.
As for the fittings, then there are many interesting solutions, both in functionality and in appearance. For example, you can purchase window handles with five fixed positions: closed, winter ventilation, swiveling and folding opening, microventilation.

And it will not be difficult to choose accessories for the interior of the dwelling, because today all these parts are made in different styles - modern, classic, high-tech - all sorts of colors and surface treatment.
The main advantages and disadvantages of windows from eurobar
The positives here include the following:
- As mentioned above, the elements of the timber are glued opposite to the fibers of each other. Due to this, internal stress is removed in the material, which makes products from it resistant to twisting, bending and cracking.
- Thoughtfully designed windows and fittings - you can forget about the annual sealing of windows during cold periods, as well as uncomfortable latches!
- Since there is an “air pocket” and an aluminum profile between the glasses, good thermal and noise insulation is ensured.
- Installing log windows at times easier than the same PVC.
- Another great advantage is that the windows in the house of the timber “breathe”, so the indoor climate will always be as favorable as possible, and the air will not be too dry.
- Timber window designs can be repaired if necessary. Small chips and dents are easily removed with putty, for example.
- Putting wooden eurowindows from a trusted manufacturer, you will immediately feel all their advantages, and at the same time add sophistication to your home. Yet plastic, even good, looks like something cheap.

The beauty of natural wood is no substitute for anything! In addition, there is the possibility of staining to emphasize the structure of the wood or give it an unusual shade.
There are such windows and disadvantages. First is the cost. Making a timber is quite a difficult task, which means that the final price of a finished eurowindow will be higher than its competitor's PVC.
And, secondly, to make a quality window out of the timber with your own hands is almost impossible without the necessary equipment and skills. But it is impossible to make a timber itself in artisanal conditions.
Conclusion
Of course, the ideal does not exist in anything. But lumber windows will definitely serve faithfully for a dozen years more than plastic (plastic is about 45 years old, wood is 55 years old).
In addition, they look much more aesthetic, with 100% environmentally friendly and have good insulating qualities. And in the presented video in this article you will find additional information on this topic (also find out what are the standard dimensions of the beam).
