Building

Diamond cutting discs were designed to work with all stone-like materials: concrete, ceramic tile, brick, natural and artificial stone.

A disk for concrete is used as a working part of a hand-held tool: Bulgarians, wall chaser, concrete and asphalt gas cutters, as well as stationary stone-cutting machines. The following manufacturers of diamond circles are most popular on the construction market: Bosh, Cedima, Husqvarna, Dronco, Norton, Luga-Nova, etc.

Diamond wheels provide efficient cutting of concrete.

Production, design features and purpose

Sizes of solid discs.

This consumable material has the form of a metal disk, on the edges of which diamond cutters are welded or soldered. These elements are produced from ground industrial diamonds and a metal binder, by pressing. The circle itself is made of durable variety of tool steel.

Note! The main advantages of this material are its durability and high rates of work. Diamond blades for cutting concrete are much more effective than abrasive counterparts. They remain sharp for a long time and provide the desired depth of cut.

Making circles

  1. Particles of industrial diamonds are pressed into special shapes into a binder from metal (steel, titanium, various alloys). In this case, diamonds with different quality and size are used.
  2. By varying the quality characteristics of diamonds, their concentration, components of the binder and the shape of the disc, one can produce disks of the desired brand.
Laser welding.
  1. Sectors are fixed on a metal base by laser welding (for circles for dry cutting) or by soldering with silver (for wet machining discs).
  2. The silver is melted at a temperature of 650/700 °. This makes it possible to manufacture high-quality diamond segments.
  3. At this stage, the cutting part of the disk is a blank, and can not cut materials.
  4. Next, each cutting wheel is sharpened.
  5. Leading disk manufacturers have invented a new fixation technology called the “HDS” - powder soldering with a high degree of density. This method significantly increased the quality of the disk segments. Similar circles can be used for dry cutting.

This method eliminates the presence of a neutral zone between the body and the cutting sectors of the disk. This makes it possible to use the working part of the circle at 100%. Such products are marked “With - HDS technology”.

  1. To ensure effective work, the cutting edges of the circle are ground with ceramic sharpeners. This is done so that the first diamond particles are visible.
  2. Now the product is ready for use.
  3. The direction of factory disc opening is determined by its position on the tool shaft. Leading manufacturers are doing the right thing by pointing the direction of the circle with arrows on it.

Types of products

Next on how to cut the disc concrete.

Segment circle.
  1. Segment circles for dry cutting. On their case, the incisors are located in sectors. Between them there are slots. They serve to relieve cutter stresses, better heat removal and waste of work, linear expansion of the disk.

Note! Technological slots may end radially boring. They more effectively redistribute shock loads during operation, removing overvoltages of the casing circle.

  1. Solid discs (without segmentation of the working edge) for a wet variety of cutting. They can have holes along their radius to evenly distribute the stresses that occur in the cutting part. When using such products, the supply of water as a coolant is mandatory.
Disc for reinforced concrete.
  1. Cutting reinforced concrete with diamond circles is carried out with special discs.. To easily cut the reinforced material, they have an increased thickness of the body and a greater content of diamond particles in the teeth.
Concrete grinding with diamond wheel.
  1. Grinding wheels, as their name implies, are needed for grinding stone-like surfaces. An abrasive diamond layer on them is applied to an annular skirt (“cup”) protruding along the edge of the disk.

Product Marking

Disc marking voices their three characteristics (in millimeters):

  • working diameter;
  • cutting width;
  • diameter of the mounting hole on the tool.

For example, & quot; Cedima & quot; DC / D 150-22-3 UP.

Here:

  • 150 mm is the diameter of the disk itself (it orients at the depth of the cut);
  • 22 mm - diameter of the mounting hole;
  • cutting width - 3 mm.

As a rule, the designation of the width of the cut is a marketing ploy. The manufacturer thus makes it clear that his disk for cutting reinforced concrete is wider, therefore - stronger. It has nothing to do with the real state of things.

Sizes of circles

The table shows the range of sizes of detachable segment disks for concrete, according to GOST № 1010-87

Disc diameter in mm 100 125 150 175 200 250 300 350 400 450 500
Cutting width min./max., In mm 0.451 0.451.2 0.451.5 0.601.5 0.802.2 1.52.2 1.52.2 1.52.2 1.92.2 2.4 2.4
  1. There are also circles with a diameter of 50 mm, 75 and 90. However, they are hardly used for cutting concrete.
  2. Disks with diameters greater than 600 mm are also produced. However, they are not used in construction, but for the manufacture of building materials, for example, granite slabs and marble.
  3. Some manufacturers, both foreign and ours, make circles that have non-standard dimensions, for example, 115 mm and 230. The state standard does not strictly regulate the variety of disk sizes. Therefore, the use of such circles and their mention in the technical documentation during construction is quite acceptable.

Disk usage

The diameters of the circles are very diverse.
  1. Circles having a diameter of 125 mm are most in demand for cutting concrete during the repair of premises.
  2. Analogs measuring 150/230 mm are used for processing concrete elements, for example, lintels in openings, slopes. They are always needed in panel buildings.
  3. Diamond wheels with a diameter of 350 mm and 400 instruction recommends using for work with large concrete products, foundation blocks. Such discs are usually used in stone-cutting machines or aggregates for the shaving of stone-like surfaces.

How to choose a disk

In order to correctly select the disc, you need to know what diameter, shape of the segments and the brand of the circle are suitable for the tool and material used, which must be cut.

Circle diameter

  1. The outer size of the circle affects the depth of cut. Therefore, the deeper cuts are needed, the more you need to choose the diameter of the disk. In this case, you should take into account what range of wheel dimensions for your instrument is provided for.

Note! It is forbidden to use consumables that are not intended for this unit. The linear value of the speed of the circle will be too small or too large (depending on the material being processed). Therefore, the disc will wear out unevenly or will overheat and get stuck. In addition, there is a risk of overloading the instrument and its breakage.

  1. The internal diameter of the disc should be selected with your own hands, looking at the shaft of the unit. There should be no gap. The difference in diameters can be leveled out precisely by picking up washers.

Below are the most common dimensions of the internal disc hole.

  1. Circles for dry cutting with a diameter of 115/230 mm, designed for manual angle grinders (Bulgarians) and have an internal hole of 22.2 mm.
  2. Analogs 150/350 mm in size are suitable for wet cutting with portable stone-cutting machines and have an internal diameter of 25.4 and 30 mm.
In the photo manual fuel cutter.
  1. Circles with dimensions of 300/400 mm are suitable for manual gas cutters, they have an internal opening of 25.4 mm. Can be used for dry and wet sawing.
  2. Analogs of 500 mm and more are designed for large stationary stone-cutting machines. They have an internal diameter of 60 mm. They carry out wet cutting.

What labeling will say

Carefully read the disc label information.
  1. When you need to constantly cut a variety of stone-like materials, it is best to choose a universal brand disc. If the material is the same, and it is known in advance, it is more correct to select a specialized circle.
  2. It must be said that different manufacturers use different methods, symbols and instructions for marking. Based on this, choosing a circle, you should be extremely careful. Otherwise, the price of cutting will be unnecessarily high.
  3. It is clear that soft materials are easily processed, and hard analogs are difficult. Therefore, for lightweight concrete with a soft filler (expanded clay, slag) or cellular analogue should be selected disks with rigid ligaments. For materials on solid fillers (gravel, crushed granite), soft-bonded circles are suitable.

Which circle to buy: for dry or wet cutting

On stone cutting machines used discs only for wet cutting.
  1. The laser-welded blade for dry cutting is also suitable for wet sawing. Provided, if the design of the tool gives such an opportunity. Nothing critical will happen to the circle. However, the speed and life of the consumable will decrease.
  2. The disks intended for wet cutting of concrete, as a rule, have the big diameter, than analogs for dry work. They need constant water cooling. The temperature of their body must remain within the limits of the permitted values. In addition, it is necessary to periodically remove the particles of the material being processed from the section.

Note! Circles for wet-type cutting dry work is strictly prohibited. Silver solder melts at a temperature of + 650 °, so the teeth fixed by it can fall off from the circle body. The disk itself can also be heated, lose its rigidity and start wagging.

Recommendations of specialists

The inner diameter of the circle must match the size of the machine shaft.

Before you buy a disc, find out the following:

  • what kind of concrete to cut;
  • what is the depth of cut;
  • diamond wheel, which dimensions are suitable for the instrument used (its outer and inner diameter, as well as thickness is important);
  • how much power (in kilowatts) of the cutting unit;
  • what method of cutting will be applied: wet or dry (it depends on the design of the tool).

All these data tell the seller-consultant, and he will select you the best product.

If the circle is already purchased, make sure that it is intended for the type of concrete being cut.

Place the disc in the direction of the arrow.
  1. Putting a circle in the tool, determine whether its direction of rotation, shown on the body by the arrow, coincides with the direction of rotational movements of the shaft.
  2. The speed of the unit must be similar to the value indicated on the disk. On the label, the manufacturers write the allowed maximum rotational speed (revolutions per minute) and the maximum permissible speed linear (meters per second).
  3. Working at the wrong speed, you can damage or unevenly wear a circle. Yes, and cutting will be ineffective.
  4. Do not tilt the disc to the side and do not use muscle strength (the mass of the tool is enough).
  5. If the cutting depth is large, make a preliminary cut (1/5 of the whole cutting value). So you stop the overload of the unit, and an even cut will be easier to get.
  6. When using a manual tool for concrete slabs having a thickness of 2/4 cm, place the stopper on the disk to the greatest depth of cut. So contact with the material will be the least. The same preparation is necessary and if diamond drilling of holes in concrete is carried out.

Conclusion

By correctly selecting the cutting disc for stone-like material, you will ensure high performance. This should take into account the brand of the circle and features of the characteristics of concrete. The video in this article contains a lot of additional information.
