Cover for a concrete ring: materials and versions
How to cover a well of reinforced concrete rings? We have to get acquainted with several solutions made of different materials, and with the regulatory documentation governing the production of some of these products.
Goals
They differ according to the well’s functionality:
- A typical water well has high walls that prevent the ingress of soil and heavy debris. The lid only protects the water from being hit by what is carried by the wind (above all, by the fall of the foliage).
- Sewer, water wells and concrete septic tanks, in contrast, are usually performed flush with the ground level or even slightly lower.
Practical consequence: in this case, the main requirement for the lid is strength. It will go on or even ride.
Materials and designs

Plastic
Let's take a very specific example - the cover Egida produced in St. Petersburg. The manufacturer's website allows you to get acquainted with the product in great detail.
Let's start with the description offered by the manufacturer.
- Retail price is 3300 rubles in St. Petersburg and 4200 - with delivery to 50 major cities of Russia.
- The hemispherical shape will not allow snow to gather. However, in the center of the product there is a small flat platform, designed to install decorative elements or places in the well of hoses.
- Due to the radial stiffeners, the maximum load is 300 kilograms.
- Cover material is polyurethane with good thermal insulation properties. The closed well will not freeze over, in the summer the water will not become excessively warm.
Note: the higher the temperature of the water, the faster the pathogenic bacteria multiply in it. From this point of view, high-quality insulation is a definite plus.
Customer reviews are generally positive. The only complaint to the product - fast (for one or two seasons) paint burnout, which does not affect the functionality.

Если пластиковые крышки для бетонных колец производятся без какой-либо стандартизации, то изготовление железобетонных нормируется ГОСТ 8020-90. Строго говоря, стандарт описывает не только крышки, но и сами кольца, готовые камеры для ливневой и бытовой канализации, дорожные плиты и днища. Marking
Instructions for marking plates of all types are spelled out in the text of the standard:
- The first alphanumeric group indicates the type of product and its main dimensions.. The numbers in front of the letters indicate the serial number of the size. The numbers after the letters for PP plates mean the internal diameter of the rings of the well on which they fit; for slabs PD and software - the diameter of the hole under the hatch.
Nuance: all sizes are in decimeters and rounded to whole numbers.
- The second group indicates the number of bearing capacity. The values of the carrying capacity for different groups are not specified by the standard, alas.
- The third group contains indications of the specific properties of the product: the permeability of concrete (H is normal, P is lowered, O is very low), the presence of additional mortgages, cuts and grooves.
So, the floor slab with marking 2PP20-2 is equipped with a hatch with a diameter of 1 meter, it is designed for laying a 2-meter-diameter diagonal well (its own diameter is 2,200 mm) and belongs to the second group by bearing capacity.
Installation
It is technologically simple, but requires the involvement of lifting equipment due to the solid mass of products. A cushion of cement mortar is laid on the edges of the upper ring, on which, in fact, the plate is lowered.
Then mounted hatch. The support ring is simply lowered into the hole, after which the cast-iron hatch is concreted; plastic pre-fixed anchors.
When anchoring can be used as a conventional punch, and diamond drilling holes in concrete, favorably characterized by the absence of shock loads and, accordingly, chipped edges.
Useful: cutting reinforced concrete with diamond circles is just as advantageous from traditional jackhammers. Compared to conventional abrasive wheels, the advantage of diamond is that they cut concrete itself and steel reinforcement equally well.
