Concrete side stones - an effective element of landscape

Modern landscape landscaping may include a variety of elements. For example, concrete side stones according to GOST 6665 91 are very effective.

They are intended for the following:

• separation of carriageways of roads and streets from platforms, sidewalks, stops of public urban transport;
• separation tramways;
• for separation of various territories, squares, sidewalks and footpaths from lawns.

Features of production and styling

1. The instruction emphasizes that the use of such elements makes it possible to strengthen the slopes and roadsides, as well as to eliminate their erosion by groundwater, rainwater, and melt water.
2. Concrete side stone is able to perform not only important practical tasks. It can carry and decorative functions. For example, if you combine stones with different colors, it will give an opportunity to decorate the transport arteries of the city.

Manufacture of products

Road curbs are made of various stone-like materials, the most common:

• concrete;
• reinforced concrete;
• natural stone;
• granite.

Note! It is important that the material of the products is sufficiently strong and massive. So, for the separation of the roadway, it is optimal to use the side concrete stones of mark 400. In this case, the curb will be durable, reliable, resistant to mechanical stress and extreme weather conditions.

Reinforced concrete stones can be produced by two methods.

1. Currently popular products produced using semi-dry vibropressing technology. Such designs are most suited to the conditions of the city. They have a high level of reliability, density and durability. In addition, their price is low when compared with granite counterparts.
2. Concrete casting method is less reliable. This technology is older and the quality of the borders obtained with its help leaves much to be desired. After 3/4 years of service, they begin to collapse.

Manufacturers produce the following types of borders:

• trunk;
• garden;
• pavements;
• road.

Regardless of their purpose, all products must, according to the standard, be made only from high-quality quartz sand, cement, rubble and modifying additives.

Mounting technology

The side stone can be mounted by different methods.

Standards distinguish two of them.

1. Border. In this case, the elements are set flush, in other words, the steps do not form. (See also the article Sculptures made of concrete: features.)
2. Curb. With this installation of stones, a separating edge is created. For example, concrete side grass lawns according to GOST No. 52289/2004 must have a side surface and the upper part with marking applied on it. Particularly strictly regulate standards for installing their own hands on the described elements on the roadway.

So, "islands of safety" on the roads should be marked with markings or side stones. The latter are installed near pedestrian crossings, if the intensity of movement of vehicles on this part of the road is not less than 40 kilometers per hour. At the same time, the height of the “island of safety” raised above the ground level should be strictly 10 centimeters.

GOST R No. 52767/2007, which was adopted in 2007, defines the following.

1. "Guide Islands". The height of the border of these road elements should be determined using the level (according to the requirements of GOST No. 9392), as well as the measuring line (according to GOST No. 427).

Note! The height of the fence should be determined during the measurement of the gap between the roadway and the lower part of the level, set horizontally on top of the side stone. The height of the fence anywhere in it should not be more than 10 centimeters.

1. "Islands of security." The height of their curb is measured in the same way as in the previous paragraph. Moreover, its indicator at any point of the fence should be 10 centimeters (± 1 cm).

When installing the side stones often arise a situation where they need to be cut.

For example, when installing the end sections of fences.

1. The best method is to cut reinforced concrete with diamond circles. You can use both stationary or portable stone-cutting machines, as well as hand tools, for example, a large grinder.
2. In addition, it may be necessary to drill the element. For this purpose, diamond drilling of concrete holes is used.

Size and quality standards

Concrete and reinforced concrete side stones are designated on the basis of the requirements of State Standard No. 23009/78.

The product category is alphanumeric groups, which are separated by a dash.

1. The first one indicates the type of product, its height, length and width in centimeters, as well as for curvilinear borders and the radius of curvature in meters.
2. The second group voices the class of used prestressed reinforcement.

For an example of designation, we take the sided concrete stones of mark 300.

1. BR / 100.30.15. Type of stone - BR (road straight). Its length is 100 mm, height 30 cm, width 15 cm.
2. BK / 100.30.18.8. Border type - BK (road radius). Its length is 100 cm, height is 30 cm, width is 18 cm, the radius of curvature is 8 meters.
3. BR / 600.30.18-AIV. Stone type - BR (main straight).

Its length is 600 cm, height is 30 cm, width is 18 cm. Armature of category АIV is used.

Conclusion
