Concrete fence posts - a pledge of the strength of the fence

Building

Improvement of the suburban area is a process directly related to the arrangement of the fence. Whatever type of fence you choose, in any case, it will need supports, which can serve as concrete pillars for the fence with your own hands.

Of course, some gardeners will be indignant, why do this work yourself, because you can buy ready-made columns? In reality, it is not always convenient to hire transport and people to carry out the loading, unloading and transportation of heavy reinforced concrete blocks.

Reinforced concrete fence posts

And besides, in the construction market it is not always possible to find products of the right size and thickness. Of course, this problem can be solved by such a method as cutting reinforced concrete with diamond circles, but this is again an additional expense.

All of these factors are the reason that many decide to make columns of concrete for the fence with their own hands.

Pros and cons of concrete fence supports

Common forms of intake columns

Before starting work, you should find out whether a fence with concrete pillars is really the best option for fencing.

The advantages of products such as reinforced concrete columns include:

  • Long service life. If you compare structures of this kind, for example, with wood, then it can be noted that concrete will last you for more than a decade;

Council Parameters such as strength and durability of the pillars are determined primarily depending on the quality of the solution used in the manufacture. Professionals recommend using cement brands M-300, M-400, M-500.

  • If desired, the appearance of the pillars can be changed using the following finishing materials:
  • Plaster;
  • Plastic panels;
  • Decorative rock;
  • Paint.
  • Easy to install. In order to reliably install such a product, you will not have to use either expensive materials or specialized equipment. All these works you can do yourself.
  • In addition to the positive characteristics, reinforced concrete pillars have one insignificant minus, which is still necessary to consider:

    • The installation of such concrete pillars involves the construction of the foundation for the fence.

    Note! If we neglect this rule, after a while your fence can undergo serious deformations and even completely collapse.

    Manufacturing technology of reinforced concrete pillars

    Installation of pillars on the site

    The instruction specifying the stages of work consists of only three points:

    1. Formwork construction;
    2. Fitting installation;
    3. Fill the structure with concrete.

    Tools and materials

    Making concrete pillars for the fence with your own hands - this is a process that must begin with the preparation of all necessary.

    In the work you may need the following tools and materials:

    • Plywood or wooden boards;
    • Reinforced metal rod;
    • Polyethylene film;
    • Welding machine;
    • Hammer;
    • Screws.

    Note! For the construction of the fence with a height of one and a half meters will need reinforced concrete pillars with a height of 1.8 meters.

    Formwork construction

    Sketch of formwork

    In order for concrete blocks for fence posts to be perfectly flat and have the correct geometry, it is necessary to be extremely accurate at this stage. Saving on materials for the construction of formwork, the price for which is not so high, should not be, because it is the quality of the number of supports that will be made with the help of the constructed formwork.

    One of the simplest versions of this type of construction is a box formwork.

    The process of manufacturing it is as follows:

    • Boards for three sides of formwork and 2 small parts covering the formwork at the ends are cut from plywood sheet. Cut these elements is necessary in accordance with the required dimensions of the manufactured product;

    Council If plywood was not at hand, you can use simple boards to make the formwork.

    • Three sides and two ends of the form are fastened together. The upper part is left open for the convenience of the process of pouring forms with concrete solution;
    • In order to ensure the waterproofing of the formwork and to prevent the solution from leaking out, all the structural elements are carefully adjusted, after which the formwork is covered with plastic wrap;

    Council Even greater waterproofing can be achieved by plating the formwork with plastic, thus preventing not only the leakage of the mortar, but also the deformation of the walls of the structure due to the process of swelling and deformation of the walls. In addition, the smooth walls of plastic will simplify the procedure for extracting finished products from formwork.

    In the photo - an example of production formwork of different lengths.

    To ensure the ease of dismantling the formwork, it is built with screws, which are subsequently easy enough to remove without damaging the plywood or board.

    Provide strength

    Laying of reinforcement in formwork

    In order for the design to have the necessary level of strength, it is not enough to simply select the best quality cement solution, in which the ratio of ingredients such as sand and cement will be 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. The strength of a concrete product can guarantee the correct selection of reinforcement.

    Note! A concrete pillar, made without the use of reinforcement, consisting of pure cement, will not be able to provide stability to the fencing that is being created.

    In order to independently assemble the reinforcement cage, it is necessary to have a welding machine and be able to use it.

    The process of welding of reinforcement is carried out taking into account the following nuances:

    • 4 rods are needed, which are located along the future post.. These rods should have a diameter of 12 to 16 mm;
    • Rods are needed to be placed across the structure.. These products must have a diameter of 8 to 10 mm;
    • The spacing of the transverse rods should be 5-15 cm;
    • When installing the reinforcement in the formwork, it is necessary to provide for a gap of about 2 cm between the bottom of the structure and the reinforcement. This is necessary to ensure that the solution fills the empty space, covering the valve completely and thereby protecting it from the devastating effects of the corrosion process.

    Preparation of the solution and pouring

    After the formwork was assembled and a metal frame was installed in it, it's time to prepare the solution. To fill the formwork, you will need crushed stone with small fractions, reaching about 5-10 mm in diameter.

    Preparation of the solution is carried out from the three main components of the mixture:

    • Sand;
    • Cement;
    • Water.

    Mixing of the raster can be done both manually and using a concrete mixer.

    After the mixture is prepared, you can begin the process of pouring into the formwork tank.

    Pouring process

    Council It is necessary to pour concrete slowly and carefully, excluding the occurrence of voids, which, after drying, will turn into sinks that can reduce such an indicator as product strength.

    To remove the voids formed, the solution is compacted by vibration, which will allow air bubbles to be expelled.

    Council To seal the product, you can use a construction vibrator or a perforator with a metal rod as a nozzle. At the end of such a metal rod is welded resistant platform, which is applied to the formwork from different sides. In the absence of both, one can pierce the solution in several places with the help of a metal rod.

    After the casting and sealing of the raster are completed, the formwork should be covered with a flat board on top.

    Next, wait a week, and then remove the finished product from the formwork.

    Council Diamond drilling of holes in concrete will allow you to create the necessary holes for the installation of fencing elements.

    Finally

    Country fence

    Holding the manufacture of pillars, you can significantly save the cost of building the barrier. And besides, you will be confident in the quality of these products, since you will independently select both reinforcement and pouring solution.
