Concrete adhesive - species in the modern construction

Building

Many builders still prefer to have on hand universal tools and materials. And, in general, this is not bad, however, as regards adhesive compositions for surfaces of different nature, this is not justified. With the current wide range of proposed glue modifications, it is advisable to use options specifically targeted to a particular material, such as epoxy adhesive for concrete.

Approximately it looks like the beginning of the workflow using adhesives

Types of adhesives

"The world of glue" is truly diverse and endless, as the producers of this material never stop on the way of improving their products and expanding the range.

To date, the consumer has been offered two groups of adhesives (excluding universal compounds), which can be purchased at almost any hardware store:

  • Mixes that work best with similar materials:
  • Rubber.
  • Glass.
  • Concrete.

Note! This group includes glue for foam concrete and glue for cellular concrete, as well as for other block materials.

Glue consumption is much less than when using cement mortar
  • A stone.
  • Plastic.
  • Compounds with combined properties fasten two different types of surfaces:
  • Solution for polyfoam or expanded polystyrene.
  • Adhesive for concrete surface and rubber products.
  • Glue for metal and concrete.

Adhesive compositions, working in extreme conditions

A separate group should be noted adhesive mixtures that have to withstand the overload associated with high temperature or humidity.

It is about finishing such objects as:

  • Pools.
  • Fireplaces.
  • "Warm floor".
  • Public baths.
The photo uses a special solution for ceramic tiles.

Note! Such cement-sand adhesive mixtures do an excellent job on non-ideal surfaces. If necessary, with their help, you can eliminate minor defects in the form of cracks, potholes on a concrete base directly during the installation of the lining.

Extreme conditions are also observed on the steps of the access stairs, which in winter turn into a skating rink. For such places suitable glue for concrete surfaces and rubber, which do not lose their properties at low temperatures.

The leader in this class of adhesives is considered to be Ceresite blends. The addition of a special plasticizer to the adhesive composition expands the effective use of Ceresit 115 on such objects as:

There are many variations of Ceresit, so when choosing glue, if you are an inexperienced builder, you should consult with the sellers.
  • Exterior stairs.
  • Floors on terraces and balconies.
  • Operable roofs.
  • Open pools.
  • Screeds outside buildings with heating.
  • Old facing.
  • Lightweight concrete.
  • Fresh concrete (age not less than 1 month).

Products "Ceresite" of this direction are distinguished by increased adhesion, minimal slipping of facing elements and quite reasonable price.

Polymeric analogues

The most popular in the latitudes of the former USSR are, perhaps, epoxy compounds.

It works with almost any material:

  • Tiled.
  • Glass.
  • A stone.
  • Porcelain
  • By metal.
Epoxy glue is usually sold in metal containers.

The two-component composition of this glue includes:

  • Epoxy resin is a basic adhesive.
  • A hardener, when combined with which the resin is polymerized and an exceptionally strong compound is formed, popularly called “cold welding”.

The curing time depends on the composition of the adhesive and the temperature of the environment in which the work is performed. As a rule, polymerization occurs within a few hours.

Note! This type of glue is characterized by high resistance to solvents, oils and water, it is environmentally safe - which expands the scope of its application.

Epoxy glue for concrete is produced in the form of viscous fluid mixtures or in the form of putty paste and is applied as follows:

  • Repair of concrete, sealing seams, sealing cracks.
  • Fixation of anchor reinforcing bars in concrete structures.
  • Gluing concrete elements with wood, metal, stone.
When using glue do not forget about safety, use gloves and a mask

Adhesive mixtures for blocks

Today, wall construction from various blocks has become very popular. They are lightweight and very simple in their own hands.

Hence the great demand for specially designed formulations:

  • Glue for expanded clay blocks.
  • Mortar mixes for gas silicate blocks.
  • Glue for foam concrete blocks.

Of course, you can put in the old manner any of the above materials in the usual cement-sand mortar. But everyone who gets acquainted with the advantages of new masonry mixes, will go to them without objection.

What features are fraught with glue for concrete blocks with various fillers:

  • Low consumption (up to 40 kg of dry mixture per meter cubic masonry), due to the plasticity of the finished solution and applying it with a notched trowel.
  • Rapid setting of the mortar.
  • Thin seams increase the uniformity of the masonry, which provides improved properties of the finished structure:
  • Strength.
  • Sustainability.
  • Frost resistance.
  • Soundproofing.
  • Thermal insulation.
  • Great appearance.

In addition, in the future you will be pleasantly surprised by the savings of consumables.

Interesting! Experienced private developers have always added PVA glue to concrete and cement mortar, this was carried out at the stage of introducing water into the concrete mixer. Such an additive significantly increases the plasticity of the solution, its adhesive capabilities, and the strength of the final product.

Technology laying on cement glue

If you follow the simple rules of working with blocks of different types, you will get a reliable, environmentally friendly construction at the exit.

  • Blocks designed for masonry must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt..
  • To improve the quality and strength of adhesion with the adhesive solution, the masonry surface of the blocks should be wetted..
  • Instructions for mixing the glue solution recommends pouring the dry mixture from the bag into the water, and not vice versa..
  • The mixture is thoroughly mixed until the lumps disappear, then let it stand for a few minutes and mix well again..

Note! Since adhesive solutions tend to quickly set, do not mix it in large quantities at once.

Excellent quality adhesives, in addition to the already mentioned brand "Ceresite" are widely represented in the domestic market. These are various mixes, including brands Polimin, Leader, Polyrem, Monolith. Among the foreign ones, the Sader (BOSTIK FINDLEY), the EMFI of French production and the German ones, Knauf, Jovi and others, have proven themselves well.

For elements connected by similar means, cutting of reinforced concrete with diamond circles or diamond drilling of holes in concrete is necessarily applied, of course, if it is necessary to make this hole.

Conclusion

Surely now you will agree with the advantages of the adhesive over the usual cement mortar, which, although more common among developers, is receding every year. Now choosing glue for concrete and plastic or other material, you for certain will think of how to arrange a priority. In the presented videos in this article you will find additional information on this topic.
